I don't think they left a message, but this number is found on Discover Financial Services web page:
https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/member- ... rotect-account/
Could have really been Discover (I do have the card and just talked to them), but I did not answer this call.
Also could have been spoofed. If I HAD picked-up, I would have disconnected and called THEM back unless they proved to me without a doubt that they were who they said they were. - crème de la crème| 1 replyThis is Discover. If you got a call from this number, it was mostly likely an automated confirmation for verifying access to your account from an unknown computer. If in doubt, call Discover at their primary number of (800) 347-2683 to make certain that this is one of their numbers.

- JoyAugust 10, 2014 1254 I just called the number, and it is Discover fraud prevention. Discover is excellent in protecting against identity theft. I got a call from the fraud prevention people just recently. They are awesome at monitoring accounts. My personal experience with them was stellar. Ff they see a charge that looks suspicious or strange, they flag your card for protection a against identity theft. Once they realized I was who I was, they removed the hold on my card. I appreciate the protection they continually provide, as well as their attention to detail concerning their accounts.

- DebbieJoy, make sure you know who you were giving out info too, we got the same number on caller Id I called my main number on Discover account she said she never heard of this toll free number, you have got to be careful on people portraying other companies
- Caller: Discover fraud
- gingerI got a text message to call and use CERTAIN CODE when prompted. I called Discover on the phone number I call for help with Discover and turns out that was a phishing call! DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER IF YOU GET ANY TEXTS OR CALLS!
- Caller: Fake Discover
- JR| 1 replyMy online Discover Bank account needed to verify the computer I was trying to log in from and it gave me the option of emailing me a code or calling my home phone (both of which they had on file and did not ask me for) and when I selected the home phone option, I immediately received the recorded call with the code from THIS number.
Therefore, it is a legitimate number from Discover. (There may be the possibility of a phishing/scam operation spoofing their number with this one, in which case, if you did not initiate a code or other call from Discover, be wary, but this number is legit.)- Caller: 800Service
- oboestThis number was used by Discover to confirm my on-line log-in.
- Caller: Discover Card
- GeorgiaGirlThis is an okay caller -- I had just made some changes on my Discover card, and they require a verification code to be sure you are who you claim to be. I could have selected text, voice mail or email to two different addresses, and they already had all four on file for me, all correct.
- Caller: Discover Cared Card
- S-CurveI just had a hang-up call on my cell from this number -- no message. But I don't have a Discover card or account, so be wary.
- Donna RFI received a call from this # this afternoon. I did not recognize the number, so I did not answer and let it go to V.M. My conclusion is that this is not a legitimate # from Discover. I think it is a fake. If someone really needed to talk to me, a message should be left. Only if you are online with Discover will they verify computer by calling or texting you to receive your code while you are online. That is legit, but receiving a call from this # otherwise is not.

- abbieI got the first call from this number at 12:09pm on Feb. 24, 2016...then on the same day a few minutes later, they called again at 12:20pm, & again at 12:27pm & again at 12:33pm. I do believe I was being spoofed & that it wasn't the real Discover...If this was the real Discover, in my opinion, they would have left a message. The spoofers want to talk to a real person & try to steal their identity. I decided a long time ago if I answer the phone & it's a spoofer or someone is trying to scam me or trying to steal my identity, I have fun with them & make then think I am a real stupid person & keep them on the line for a long time in order to keep them from being able to spoof a lot of people that day. Sometimes I just talk to them for a few minutes & then lay the phone down & walk off. Sometimes I talk to them real nice & they think I am going to give them info so that they can steal my identity, then I scream real loud into the phone & tell them they are crooks & I'm not stupid like they think. I tell them that I have kept them on the phone long enough to keep them from scamming quiet a few other people. So far, only 1 out of 10 will call me back.
I really pissed one of those scammers off big time one day a few months ago. When I answered the phone I knew it wasn't anyone I knew so every time they ask me a question, I just repeated the same thing right back to them & after 2 to 3 questions, they finally hang up as they know then that they won't get anything from me.- Caller: Unavailable
- auds replies to k3M| 1 replythis is the number they call from when you need to verify your account. it's not spam.
- larryb| 1 replyCall received from 888-251-8003 in my voice mail. Called Discover card at 800-347-3085 and talked to my account representative to verify if this was a legitimate call from them. She stated that this number cannot be found in their directory. Checked my accounts with them and stated that they were sound and no calls, inquiries, or verification
were made by Discover card.
If you get a call from this number, don't even answer, call Discover & find out for yourself. - KalOThis is Discover Card Security. It is listed on their website. I have also called the number on the back of my card and verified it as being one of their numbers.
- Caller: Discover Card
- bigtex| 1 replyI went to check my Discover Card balance online and before it would go to my account, it had to send me a verification code to enter. The code came in a call from this number. I entered the code and went to my account as usual. I check my credit card balances a couple of times a week and this is the first time I have had to do this. Guess it is just an added security check, but it definitely Discover Card.
- Caller: Discover Card
- bigtexChecked my account online again this morning and got the same message after I put in my password. For the second day in a row, I had to take the extra step of getting a call from this number with a code to input before I could access my account. Discover says it is to make sure it's me signing in, but this extra step comes in AFTER I have put in my correct password. If I have the password, that should be enough. Hope this inconvenience doesn't continue or I may have to start using my other credit cards instead of Discover.
- Caller: Discover Card
- bigtexJust logged into Discover Card again. This time, there was no requirement for a special code. I had to enter the code a total of three times. Maybe three is the limit and it won't be an annoyance anymore. Once was OK but more than that is a pain in the bump.
- bigtexYesterday I got an email from a company I have mutual funds with. It said that, in the near future, when I log into my account, I will have to receive a call or text with a two digit code that I will have to enter before I can get into my account. They say this is being done as an added security measure to ensure that it is actually me going into my account. So, it's not just Discover, it looks like it is everyone doing this. However, if an imposter has both my computer and my password, it seems to me they probably have my phone also. Not much additional security. Just another hassle, in my opinion.
- Helen MarshallCall just ID'd as Toll Free Call. Maddening that some legitimate companies such as AT&T or USAA make calls that are identified as Toll Free, rather than using their names. But this appears to be a scam, based on the above.
- Steve in Miami replies to k3MGreat advice, namely that calls that appear to be from this number may legitimately be from Discover, or *may not* be legit. Scammers can portray to be from any arbitrary number they wish (i.e., spoofing). If you were a scammer, wouldn't you want to *appear* to be from a legit number? Be very careful, as this number appears to be "compromised".
