Claiming to be PC Financial with a banking issue.  Looking for personal information.  I called PC Financial and they said they had no reason to call so it is probably fraud.

I second that it's a legit number from their credit department.

They'll call "as a courtesy" if you you may be late on a payment.

When I got the call I refused to give my personal information over the phone. Instead I called the number on the back of my card. They didn't recognize the number at first but realized it was their credit department. They automatically transferred me. The person from the credit department verified that it was their number.

I followed Gwaine`s suggestion and called PC Financial.  They also confirmed with me that it was their Credit Dept and transferred me over to them.  Legit number...

As I did not recognise the number, I called it back. On came the usual BS " For English press 1...etc." You know the routine. After considerable waiting, someone answered with "Hello". When I responded, next came, "What is your phone #". Then,  name, address, DOB etc. So, I said, "YOU JUST PHONED ME. WHY?"
Caller: "If you don't give your phone # we can't pull your file"
Me: "But you just called me 10 seconds ago. So, you have my phone number."
Caller: "We need to verify you to proceed. We call many people."
Me: "My number shows up right on your screen when I called back now. So you have it twice."
Caller: "Because of privacy laws we still need to verify".
Me: "This is just a big scam, isn't it?"
Caller: "If you don't give me any information I can't help you." and hung up.
This number is a computerised phone dialer that calls my # three times each day from different call-back numbers. Because most smart phones can now screen out these annoyances, computers are programmed to use different call numbers. Note the caller never identified who she was, and hung up when I named the game she was playing. Draw your own conclusion.

It's is best to answer or if you don't think it's them. Log into your account and see if you are okay. If you need to make a payment or need more time. Talk to them and work something out. Don't let your credit score go down it's not worth it.

That's the problem, isn't it?  Scammers routinely spoof legitimate numbers.

I do not have products or services with Simplii, PC or CIBC - therefore they have no reason to contact me.  In my opinion, this is a scam.  I answered once and they pretended not to hear me and kept asking my name (a type of scam that has recently been reported) I have since blocked the number and do not intend to answer it.  Doesn't stop them from trying though.

It's a legitimate number. I tried calling and it's worth checking up to make sure there's nothing funny going on your account. Peace of mind at least.

If you want "peace of mind", then never call an unpublished number that claims it is to a Bank. This number does not appear on the Simplii website, so I would not trust it.

I recieved a call from this number and it comes up as CIBC - I have an account with Simplii Financial that has been in over draft for months because I forgot I had it LOL. I think this MIGHT be them asking if I will be using the account so they donr send it to collections fml. Havent been to a bank in months because of Covid19 and my mobile banking doesnt work hence forgetting about the account ohhhhhhh could be legit.

"ohhhhhhh could be legit"? Well, maybe you should call them at a known phone number and find out. Being overdrawn isn't a good thing, you know.

PC does NOT have Curtosy calls at random, any curtisy call you get from PC financial will be very specific to your situation and they will call to give you very general info, anything that is even remotely private, you will have to call them for.... they will not talk about details of anything private ...period

Thank-you hun for the info.....it is very helpful and hopefully saves someone from being a victim.... for some it may seem like what you did posting this link is no big deal however it seems to be too much work for most to go that extra step and in my opinion you went above and beyond..... Thank-you

So I have never had a PC financial product and I've never shopped at any PC stores i.e. Shoppers or Lowblaws etc.
There's no reason PC Financial would need to contact me.
I answered the call and no one spoke. Just dead air.
Thank you for letting me know this is a prank caller.
