Another website said Charter Communication. I recently tried to sign up for service, so I'm pretty sure who it is.

Yeah, I called them about service as well, and gave them my phone number. Charter Communications seems reasonable, though I missed the call and am disinterested in calling back.

1-888-275-8940 was a scam phone number claiming to be part of Apple Technical Support.  They froze my IPhone after I got in a horoscope website, that toll free number popped up and the guy who answered tried to get my credit card information after threatening me about my phone being hacked and my secured info. was stolen.  I refused to give my credit card info, and was able to fix the problem by restoring my Iphone to prior backup thru ITunes.

Same thing happened to me and I panicked. I wanted to go to the craigslist website on my iphone and the security alert popped up and asked me to call the number 1-888-275-8940. The guy on the otherside tried to convince me of working for Apple support and asked for my name and AppleID. Though I told my name, I did feel suspicious and did not reveal my AppleID. The guy seemed to pull (?) all my details using my phone# and my full name and told me that my iphone has been infected by 8 malwares, which temporarily he has been able to stop gathering my info. And I need to make a payment of $99 for the absolutely necessary security, else my iphone will crash etc etc.

I disconnected the call, switched off the phone, restarted and wiped out any History from Safari. Hope that took care of the problem.

Ditto! Accidentally clicked a random tab button reading an article. Wanted $99.99 & said would protect my phone for 5 yrs. no other option. 26 different hacks shown supposedly? Told him I was broke & couldn't afford $5 & asked if he was pretty much telling me I'm [***]. He said yes. I hung up & started a little research...

I clicked on a random tab in Google and a hacking alert came up that said if I didn't call this number all my data would be gone.  Called Apple Support instead and was advised to go to my settings and "clear History and Website under the Safari tab

My phone crashed, got a call immediately from this numbers saying they are Apple protection and could help me get my phone back up and running for 99.99. I was a sucker and believed them not realizing I already have Apple protection since this is a work phone. Immediately I realized and checked my account and saw the transaction and googled that company, its out of CA a Tech support membership, when I called them to dispute the charge and ask about the service no one answered. I called the number back who called me and demanded a refund, after several different "supervisors" I finally talked with a manger who claimed he would refund me. we shall see. SCAM
