That number was set up by the phone companies to combat spam texts and they can shutdown offending phone numbers.
Never reply with "STOP", scammers will not honor the request (they have no honor to begin with) and it only verifies that they have texted to a valid number and a person who reads their texts. It will not STOP the texts and may actually make them more frequent.
Never click on a link in such a text as it may cause malware to be inserted on your phone, and even if it does not, just as with replying "STOP" the scammers will know they reached a valid number.
Do not post any links included in the texts you receive to websites such as this one.

- Anonymous 1| 1 replySome gentleman left a voicemail that has my old name with an address that is not tied to me claiming to have documents to serve me regarding that property on 5th st. They did not leave their name of company name. Call came to me as unknown & left this 1-888 # on my voicemail to call them back. He did give me a reference #. Could be spam...🤷🏼♀️. I am not calling them back since it was fishy.
- MarkI got a call from them too. They said it was to collect on an unpaid debt from 2012 on a loan that I never took out. Funny how this never showed up on my credit in all these years. Scammers
- Caller: No clue

- Mark replies to Anonymous 1I wouldn’t bother calling them back. I dealt with a company called Marlin Recovery a few years ago. They kept leaving me messages about this so called debt I owed. When I asked for specifics they didn’t have them and would stop calling for a while. Then they switched to a different name but it was the same guy’s voice on the voicemail and trying to collect for the same bogus claim. I never got any loans in 2012. I had just sold my house and had over $10k dollars in the bank. Not to mention it’s never showed up on my credit. When faced with all the evidence they said that a family member probably opened it in my name. It happens they said. I said opened it in my name and deposited into my account too? That’s weird. Not to mention stupid. They stopped calling after I kept calling them back to harass them about it. Now I assume they’re back under a different name with a different playbook.
