- Bud| 4 repliesI received a call from this number today, and they left a voicemail claiming to be from Wells Fargo calling about a possible fraudulent charge on my account. I wasn't that surprised, because I had made an international purchase this morning, so I thought there may be a problem. I called back, and gave them my CC number, full name, birthdate and phone number before I stopped and asked how I was supposed to know if this was really Wells Fargo or not. They said I could hang up and call the number on the back of my card and go through security that way, so I did. Of course, my bank had never heard of this number and they would never solicit information over the phone. So these people are identity thieves, and I want to figure out how to track them down.
- Caller: unknown
- Jason DaltonThey first called and showed as UNKNOWN and then they send a text message to call them.
- Anonymous| 2 repliesI called this number after my bank, Wells Fargo told me to call them. I was going out of the country and wanted to make sure my debit card would work. They are indeed the Wells Fargo Fraud Detection department. I also verified this with my local Wells Fargo branch.
- MIke GuenzlerFeeling kind of odd after I was asked to call this number, I googled this number and then decided to call the number on my card like Bud did. They confirmed that it was the correct number for Wells Fargo Fraud Detection. I didn't want to trust "Anonymous", nothing personal. So maybe the person he talked to was new. Anyway I feel better now.

- GaryThis is indeed Wells Fargo's Fraud Detection phone number. Like Bud and Mike, I also called the number on the back of my card to speak with a Wells Fargo banker. He did affirm that it's the real deal. Wells Fargo flags any unusual patterns or a sudden high price item which would look suspicious like someone had got a hold of your credit card number, and was starting to buy big ticket items at will. They set a flag that locks your card until you call them, and straighten things out. After I finished talking with them, I appreciated the fact that they were looking out for me.

- hmm| 1 replytsk tsk wells fargo, I declined to call this number when they left me a voice mail, they should instruct you to call the number on the back of your card, not some randon unlisted number
- MikeI don't even have a Wells Fargo card, and I got a call from this number today. I'm still looking into it, but needless to say, I'm very suspicious.
- VicI received a call from this phone number purporting to be the Fraud Detection Department at Wells Fargo regarding my Visa debit card. When I called it, I heard two rings and then a prerecorded message saying "Talk to ladies who want to talk to you! Call 123-456-7890 (or some # I can't remember anymore)." Then the line disconnected after 10 seconds.
SUSPICIOUS!- Caller: Wells Fargo, so they say

- Dave replies to BudI got the same message, and was informed of fraudulent charges posted to my account. (I verified this online.) I just called the number on the back of my card, spoke to a banker at Wells Fargo, and they told me that my card had indeed been reported stolen, cancelled, re-ordered, and the additional charges have been sent to a claims representative.
When in doubt, definitely contact Wells Fargo directly, but ... seems like this number is legit. - B MoneyThe number is legit, i just verified it by calling the number on the back of my card, Bud is just a [***] trying to scare you.
- dodgyReceived numerous phonecalls regarding fraud on my visa card but I don't have a wells fargo account, the number is 1-888-671-2468

- Mike888-293-7475 is legit. I called it after they left a message on my phone and then I got wierded out and hung up to call the number on the back of my card. Then the number for the fraud dept was different than the one on the message, but when transferred I asked if there were any other lines and they gave me the the one on the message and said it was a non-public line. There was a hold on my account due to fraud and they cancelled my card and sent me a new one.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- TLI received a call from this # today, the Wells Fargo Fraud Dept., I called the 3 on the back of my card to verify, he said the # they gave me to call was not on his list of the Fraud Dept. #'s but that dosen't mean it isn't one. I went ahead and cancelled my card in case it was not a legit problem.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- alsohitIn case it helps anyone:
I also got the message to call 888-293-7475. I called the # on the back of my Wells Fargo card instead and they verified the 888 number IS a legit number for their fraud group. I was transferred to the fraud group and told my card info was stolen in connection with a website but they could not tell me which one.
The only bum charge I had (so far) was a $3.24 charge at a UHaul in Wyoming (I live no where near Wyoming). WF flagged the charge as suspicious and called me on the same day (1-15) so kudos to whatever software they're using to monitor these things.
I'm thinking the info leak was probably through GEEKS.COM which was hacked on 12-14 and lost both cc numbers and the associated CVV2 verification numbers (the 3-digit code on the back of cards that merchants expressly pledge NOT to store). My WF card is less than 12 months old and GEEKS is one of the few online places I've used the card to make purchases. Though GEEKS was 100% positive that CC info was stolen, GEEKS did not inform ALL of their customers of the hack but chose instead to infom only the 650 or so customers who were most likely to have been affected. This made me mad BEFORE I learned that my card was compromised. GEEKS needs to fess up and tell ALL of teir customers what happened so the customers can know to be watchful of strange charges.
Hope this info helps!- Caller: Wells Fargo
