They make a lot of threats they can't actually act on. They can't take your whole check. Even if they can convince a judge to allow it, they could only take a very small amount per month. But in all likelihood, they'd never get that far.

As far as the threats go, making them is illegal. Call them on it. Be confident and assertive. If you can hold out until they hang up, not you, you probably won't hear from them again.

By the way, if your income is less than 150% of poverty level, the fee to file bankruptcy is waived. (This is not the same as lawyer fees.)

These people will not let up. Put them in the programmed call block list and they still try (just rings once, thank goodness).

We have no outstanding debts. I think they are probably calling for my former sister-in-law, who doesn't even live in this state. And what exactly would I do about it anyway? I'm not passing their message along and I am not going to give them any information.

It is illegal for them to threaten seizing your wages. REPORT THEM!!
