i didn't answer, they called my cell .who are they

It's Registerd to New York State Electric and Gas accounts

they called twice and when i answered they hang up and when i call back someone answers but never says anything.

The call is from NYSEG's automated collection department. I went on NYSEG's website and confirmed this. They leave no information because they cannot confirm that its really you they are calling.
(Think about how many people change their phone number EVERYDAY just to get away from bill collectors.)
The number is legit. Call them or go to www.nyseg.com to sign up and pay your bill. SOOOO much easier then trying to get through their automated system. It'll show you your account information and how much to pay (min, total to bring current).

I realize this is a year old, but I feel I should respond for the sake of clarity.
What you say is all well & good, except for 1 thing.......I do not now nor have I ever had any dealings, utilities or other connection with NYSEG

So an attempt to extort money from me will be reported to the NYS attorney general & the PSC

It's "college works painting" chuck..but the other guys story about the utillity company sound so much better.

Chuck, it's likely some deadbeat gave NYSEG your phone number and why you're getting calls.

I don't know why they are calling us, we each month auto.

My NYSEG account is current, no reason I should get a bill collection call

I received a call from NYSEG on my work phone.  I work/live in Wisconsin.  Clearly something is wrong here. Either their automated calling system malfunctioned, or someone in New York falsified their information with the utility company.

Call and hang up, no idea why.

Relax, it was NYSEG   stating that HEAP was starting up

I have not had NYSEG account in more then 10 years and I do not owe them. The place I have lived for the last 4 years my landlord pays the bill.

Yes, its NYSEG but that seems to be the number for all issues, not neccessarily bill collection

NYSEG is calling to remind people they may be eligible for HEAP.  A courtesy call.

I checked and this IS a NYSEG number  Per page 3 of their online document at http://www.nyseg.com/MediaLibrary/2/5/Content ... %20Brochure.pdf , this number is for:  Credit Assistance, Payment Arrangements
1-888-315-1755.  We do have a NYSEG account.  However, the account is current, so there is no reason we should be receiving a call from this number.  Since no message was left, I am assuming the call was made to us in error and I am not calling them back.

NYSEG. The folks that charge seventy five cents just to send you a bill.  My moms house sold they sent a final bill and ten days went by and they're reminding me to pay. I can't say I will miss dealing with this money hungry foreign entity.
