Scam call from SRP demanding payment or electricity would be disconnected in 1 hour.  Really???

Caller stated he needed to speak with the person who handles the APS bill ASAP as it's scheduled for disconnect today at noon for non-payment. BULLCRAP. APS is an auto-pay bill for us and when I Googled the number they gave me to call back, it's this bogus one. It showed as "out of area" on caller ID.

Called saying they were from Xcel energy and asking to speak with whoever handled the bills, saying our power was going to be disconnected in one hour. Definite scam. Word to the wise: your power company will send you MANY notices in the mail before ever turning your power off.

Received a call at my place of employment from this number. They asked to speak to whoever was in charge of billing. They said they were going to shut our power off within an hour if we didn't pay $2400 electric bill. They didn't call from the electric company's number. I asked for a number to call them back at and I called them back. They asked for an account number and I made one up and they put me on hold and gave me the same total but then I was told to go into any payment center to pay and that we should NOT pay online, which is weird. I said I would go into the main electric company to pay and the man said they have stopped taking appointments ( which you can walk in to pay) so he again suggested I pay at one of the payment centers. He mentioned a gas station. Very strange.
