It happened two weeks ago. A person claiming to be an "Independent process server" called me and said I needed to call this number immediately. It was for a company that called themselves "United" claimed they were a mediation service, and that I needed to immediately pay $432.00 (They'd waive the $200 location fee...how nice of them) or I would be served a summons to appear in court on check fraud charges. Ahem, right. They claimed it was over a payday loan I took out and never paid back. In February of 2009. I haven't taken any loans out in a year, and had gone to great pains to pay the ones I had back about 8 months ago so this was interesting. I asked what company they were representing, and they said "PDL Loans" Didn't ring a bell, and so they said it was a parent company for about 50 payday loan companies... only three of  of which she was willing to read off to me. But she made it clear that the process server was already out and about and if I didn't pay up they wouldn't call her and tell her to cancel the summons. Right.
They were unwilling to mail me any documentation, I knew it was a bunch of BS for several reasons. One, the company in question had never made any attempts to contact me for repayment themselves. Two, I never took a loan out with that company. Three an East Indian based company had been trying to work that exact same scam on me for several years (And apparently on thousands of other Americans). Five, They did not want me to have any time to validate their claims or look them up on the internet. It was a real "hurry hurry, don't think just keep the mean process server from getting you!" Six, I closed out the bank account they listed as being the one the loan was deposited into in January of 2009, one month before the alleged loan! So I just said I'd take my chances with the process server. She hung up on me. The "Process server" called a few hours later, wanting to know if I had made payment. I told her no, and why I didn't. She said "Good luck in court" and hung up. Funny thing, it's been two weeks, still waiting for the process server to show up.
I called the bank I'd had that account at to tell them about the call. The very nice lady on the other end told me she had just, 10 minutes earlier recieved an identical call from the same people trying to scam her, and she'd never ever taken out any kind of payday or short-term loan. It's a very common, very widespread extortion scam. They're even calling people's work places. I'm trying to get the word out so folks don't get suckered by these unethical lying sacks of road apples.

They called us twice today on July, 8th 2011. We have perfect credit and can confirm that this is total BS!

The caller said his name was Markus Rivera, his voice was of middle eastern descent. same thing as everyone else, a number to call: 888-321-4888 about a "claim" or "court charge" when called the 888 number claims to be from "United". Here is what we did and what our attorney advised us to do.

1: CALL YOUR LOCAL STATE'S ATTORNEY GENERAL
And file a complaint- they are elected by voters like you from people like this, free of charge.

2: REPORT THIS CRIME TO THE FTC:
    https://www.FTCComplaintAssistant.gov/

3: REGISTER TO THE NATIONAL "DO NOT CALL LIST"
    https://www.donotcall.gov/

ALSO: if the calls persist, turn the tables on them!!! ask for their business address, name of the company's CEO and BBB (better business bureau" affiliation, etc... if they can not provide you with that information they are trying to scam you out of money!!!!! if they do provide you with an address just report it to your local state's Attorney General.  never give your personal or mailing address or any other info to these creeps.

WARNING! this fake company is a bogus collection/ extortion scam!!!!
got voicemails from a middle eastern man named Markus Riveria to call 1-888-321-4888, spoke with a lady who sounded American. They claimed I had an old pay day loan debt. I've never taken out payday loans, in fact (payday loans) are illegal in my state. Lady said she was with "United" a mediation firm, I asked what mediation was and she couldn't even define it. I aksed for her company's physical address and she refused to provide.  Total scam, I later called the FBI so they are aware of this operation, and since they are attempting to extort money, these people's days a numbered. It's only a matter of time before "United" and their other shady operations get what's coming to them. Federal prison is no fun!!!

Company has been calling me at home & work for a month.  Constantly threatening arrest and being served by 'law enforcement' for 'some case', no details other than a fake Case #.  They've used several 'fake' names and refuse to give out their own company details, such as Full Name, address,e tc.

Last Thursday someone from their Zoo, named' Carol Brooks' called my employer and left a very nasty, very offensive message on her voice mail about me.

I would gladly serve them with a Cease & Desist order, which would stop the harassment, but they won't give out their location, and reverse phone number come up empty as it is a 'fake' number. If you redial it, it switched  to another number, but you cannot trace it.  I've called the number twice, I reached another rude jerk, I informed him that they are breaking the law by making threats to me directly, an by leaving these same threats on my employer's voice mail.   I told him not to ever call my employer again. his response "see you in court', then he hung up.   I just received another nasty message from Carol Brooks on my cell phone, again she threatened me with being served  for court.  In NJ, you are served by the court if someone sues you, it is a civil case, not criminal.. no process servers come to your house. They just send the complaint via certified mail... dumb butts!  And you are not 'arrested' ever before going to trial , and even if found guilty in a 'civil court' you are not arrested. If they win a judgment against you, the court notifies you, you have 'x' amount of time to  pay up. If your refuse then they can garnish wages, etc.   There is no time when you are arrested.  Lucky for me all incoming calls at my office are recorded (I work for a financial firm), and I save all their ugly voicemail messages .  These idiots are really looking for trouble

This happened to me today. Only I fell for it. I had some checks stolen a while ago and paying the settlement seemed easier than having to go thru the process of hiring a lawyer and paying court fees and all of that. Thank God for my sister who immediately googled the company name and number, told me I was an idiot, and to get myself to the bank to close that account. So, yes, people, if someone calls you telling you to call 855-255-5692, its FAKE.

united is a scam..... replies to Sarata
the same thing happened to me today...i ask alot of questions about the bank i so called used and they could not tell me. they had an address that i did not live in the year of question. im so glad that the internet is a good source of info. people please do not pay these people they are scamers. i experienced this 8/24/2011. The exact thing that happen to Sarata happened to me. i wanted the loan processor to bring my documents at a specific time and she never showed up...they have not called me back. so if you get a person who claims to be a loan processer stating she have a claim number in a sealed envelope but she does not know the matter tell her to delivery the package to you...do not give her any info of you address...she will not show up..It is a scam

This Carol Brooks called me initially and mentioned she was an independent process server.  She called from a number in Connecticut which caller id read as (203) 806-4023.  When I tried to call the number back, recording says it's no longer in service.  Weird!!!  In speaking with Carol Brooks she mentioned she had papers to serve on me relating to breach of fiduciary duty and fraud.  She mentioned I would have to call United Mediation at 1-866-924-9418 so they can release her from having to serve the papers.  I, of course, called this number and spoke with a George Perez who could not proivide me with any information on their company, but went to extremes to tell me that I need to pay for an outstanding payday loan.  He asked that I make an arrangement which included taking a credit/debit card to secure the one time or bi-weekly payments.  I asked him to share more information about his company and he refused --- So I told him I refuse to provide my ssn, dob and credit/debit card information to a perfect stranger.  These scams are ridiculous but REAL.  ALL be aware of any numbers and names mentioned here.  It is truly a scam!!!!  I'm reporting all of this to the Federal Trade Commission... hopefully they will take action.

    (866) 924-9418 -  SCAM Victim!
    (866) 924-9418? ....BEWARE!!!! It's a SCAM!!!! Someone calling themselves Jarrett McCain, from UNITED MEDIATIONS FIRM, CALIFORNIA, has been calling my job, and my HR Department, threatening to "serve" me with "papers" if I don't make "arrangements" with them to pay an "alleged" pay day loan of 1278.02.
They claim to represent First Bank of Delaware. When we called the FBI's Internet Crimes Unit (877) 438-4338, and The Consumer Rights Law Firm (877) 700-5790, both agencies Googled (United Mediations Firm - (866) 924-9418), and found both the number and the company, to be a big SCAM!

I receive calls for the person who used to own my house ALL THE TIME.  Apparrently he has some serious financial issues and people are looking for him.  Today I got another one on my answering machine.  I'm beyond angry at this point over being harrassed.  I call the number 888-556-3926 and start telling the person right away that I do not have anything to do with that person.  Why are you calling my number? It quickly escalated into a shouting match.  When I asked for a manager he started screaming he was the manager and telling me he knows what my house is worth, I used profanity.  I'm a single mom with limited resources and now on top of being harrassed I have to worry about some psycho who has all my information?  I'm done.  There has to be a way to end this.  The police and phone company tell me I have no recourse.

I too received a call about two weeks ago from this company named "United" who called my Human Resource Manager informing him that I had a complaint lodged against me and that I was too call them asap.  I did return the call and also was told I had a payday loan that was not paid from 2008 and if I did not pay it immediately the process server would be there within the hour to arrest me.  Me being scared to death of this threat I paid them $200 out of an old account.  They were to withdraw another $200 today but after getting a funny feeling about this I closed the account.  I did receive a nasty message this morning from this foreign speaking gentleman telling me that I had 2 hours to pay this amount or they would be after me today.  Glad to know that this is some sort of scam and will pay more attention to getting myself involved with such a scam.

Well I got suckered and lost 125.00 today from this people, they did the same thing on me and I didn't figure it out until it was too late.  they used the same technique about the pay day loan, they wouldn't send me anything in writing even though i kept insisting that is when i became suspicious but i had already given them my prepaid card number. I do have their number and will try it tomorrow but i'm sure they will not give me anything back. Please check this out before you fall for it.  according to them they are litigators.

I received two calls from an alleged process server today stating there was a claim against me.  The phone number he gave me for this company was 888-815-9026.  The phone number is disconnected and I see the company info in all the complaints listed here.

When he called the second time he would not allow me to speak.  He then contacted me daughter and left what could be defined as "third party disclosure.  I will be filing a report with the BBB

I got one just today.  The guy wouldn't tell me his name, but the number came up as 507-263-1705 and they said that they had a check fraud suit against me for a payday loan that was satisfied over two years ago.  The Caller ID said that number and that they were in Minnesota.  The guy was an absolute jacka**.  I asked for the address of United Mediation and he said "So you're not going to pay it then?" I said, that's not what I said, I just said I want some information about you before I give you any of my bank information.  He replied with "Maam, I've been doing this for over 30 years, and I've dealt with YOU PEOPLE a lot."  I may have screamed some profanities at him at that point and hung up the phone.  Long story short - I filed bankruptcy. So, even if I wouldn't have paid what he said I didn't pay (and I did) then the bankruptcy would've cleared it anyway.  Jerk.
Don't give your money to these people.

I guess I'm the dummy. I recieved the call about 2 weeks ago from a company called "UNIVERSAL". He said they had a Breach and Fraud  suit agains me for a payday loan from a bank "First Bank of Delaware.
I called this company today and asked the young man (who spoke broken english) when they were going to send me paperwork confirming my conversation about this conversation. He told me the only paperwork that would be sent was a receipt for payment or confirmation that claim was closed. After this call I went online to get the phone number to call the bank and found out that this bank was in voluntary liquidation and was closed out. I had given them they number of my debit card and I am freaking out about them having this information.
After finding this out I called the number for the FDIC and the gentleman I spoke with confirmed the information about the bank and that I shouldn't have given them any of my information. Like I said, I am
the dummy. The man who had called told me they would be taking out $100 for 6 months.  I called my debit card and told the customer relations lady that my card had been compremized and she immediately closed out the card and told me NO PAYMENT would be given to company with the name "UNIVERSAL". I feel like such a dumb a**. I had never had this happen before and I was concerned that people would think I was some sort of criminal, I had never been to court before.
If you get this call ask them for their business website address and DON'T GIVE THEM ANY PAYMENT INFORMATION or your debit/credit information. Call this number and report this call.
