Automated message asking for somebody at my business, somebody we don't know. Company is Elmwood Associates and the message they left stated that they had "Personal information" that needed a "response" that same day by that person or their attorney.  The number they left to call was (888) 352-9849. Also using: 213-816-2964

Upon further research, it appears to be a new crop up of yet another junk debt collector (out of Buffalo, NY of course) using illegal and harassing tactics. Per their website, which looks pretty amateur, "Elmwood Associates is debt recovery company specializing in the recovery of bad checks and authorized ACH drafts."  They claim to be a "leader" in the industry, but their web domain was only registered in April 2012.

they called a friend of mine and said that they are going to deliver some court papers to her and said unless she gave them a payment  they are going to take her to court well I did some digging they are a debt collector.

The recorded message they left is as follows: "This message is solely intended for [name of person]. If you are not [name of person], please hang up now and disregard this message. This call from the offices of Elmwood Associates. A serious matter associated with your personal information has been placed with our office. We need to receive a statement from you or your attorney, if you have one, today in order to resolve this issue quickly and release you from this matter. Your file number is XXXXXXXXX. You can reach us directly at 888-352-9849. Thank you."

This is an illegal collection tactic, pretty common and they count on scaring people in to paying. There are no court papers. The people calling are NOT attorneys nor even process servers. Chances are the "paper" they bought with your information is long out of the statute of limitations for collecting. Do not give them any information and definitely to not offer to given them money. Doing so could reset the clock on their ability to legally collect. The best course of action is to ignore them and tell them to stop calling... or make sure they sent you a verification of the debt IN WRITING, which they are required to do, by law. You'll never get anything in writing from them. This is yet another pop-up collection service from Buffalo that will be gone in a few months to avoid the authorities getting to them for illegal collections.

More dummy numbers so it looks like homebody local is calling, increasing the chance you'll pick up. You block on, they just call back from another.

I'm handing this over to our attorney now because they are harassing our business line for somebody who doesn't even work here.

I told her that this company did not know who elmwood and associates were and that company did not represent them. She said we would not waste elmwood a money on a account that was not valid. I then told her to serve me at my job. She failed to get my employment since I have changed jobs. Good luck serving me plus I no longer live at that address on file.

They are bottom feeding bogus debt collector/scammers.

I had one, Nick Brooks just tell me he was with Brevard County and had some official papers to sign.

Then when I restated "you say you are with Brevard County, I want to know your office, supervisor, etc"  he started back pedaling "uh, no, I work in Brevard County ... blah blah blah"

Epic scammer failure.

I've received two voice mails with the same message, except no company/firm stated. Are they trying to extract a belly laugh from me? :P
