- MichelleWatch out I got a call from this number 888-397-2880... wanting my new address. They leave a callback number, when you call them back, they answer but do not state the name of a company. They then say "I have your social security # as ...., is that correct." I said that I would not release any information such as that. That is their means of obtaining your social security #, its a SCAM! They kept saying they had to send me important information from their client, but would not tell me what it was in regard to. I told them I am not releasing any information and to take me off of their calling list. Be Careful everyone!

Download a cease and desist template online and send it to them. They are allowed to contact you only one more time, by law, after receipt of the letter. This is the only way to get most debt collectors to stop calling. "Educate and retaliate"- Caller: ERS

- LLJ60This phone number just called and asked to speak to my neice's fiance. Interesting. He's never lived here or used this phone. My neice calls here often. I would like to know EXACTLY how they get family and friends phone numbers. I think it must be illegal. All that a Mr Santos would say is that his company''s name was EVEREST. Pretty suspicious to be calling MY house.

My husband tried to call them back and would not give him any information. We asked them the name of the company and a man named michael said that we dont know who they are because they have changed there name from many years ago. sounds like a scam. but according to them they are going to mail me something. makes no sense..

- AislinnI've been receiving calls from these people for over a year ~ interestingly enough right after my husband and I separated. When I press them for company name, what they want ~ and, by the way, I have not identified myself as the person they are seeking ~ they just say "John with Everest". A woman had called before giving this same return number ~ all the incoming calls have local area codes ~ and stated she was with ERS. Their persistence is what made me suspicious since I know where my finances stand and I thought it was something to do with my husband. Anyway, I suspected it was some sort of scam when I verified some of the personal information they gave me. However, they have not sent me anything in the mail ~ which was supposed to have been sent months ago ~ which also makes me very suspicious. Be very careful, people! There are some very weird scams to steal your identity!

- HI have yet to get a call from these people as far as I'm concerned. I always get random people calling me. I always listen to my voicemails right away, so I haven't heard them on my voicemail. However, last night at 9PM my husbands grandma called me in a panic. She said the man stated his name was Bryan and it was urgent he spoke with me. He was asking for my maiden name though. He refused to tell her what it was concerning since it was "confidential" but wanted to verify my address, phone number and the last 4 digits of my social security. She said she only answered because it came up a 313 Detroit number, but when she picked up it beeped and immediately transferred her to another line. She said Bryan told her to have me call him back at 888-397-2880. He told her it was urgent and they were trying to make sure I got the required form that was mailed to me? After I talked to her, I immediately called and blocked my number. Nobody answered, it rang and rang. Never went to any sort of voicemail. This morning I called again, but the man was talking so fast as if he did not want me to catch where he worked or what his name was. I hung up. Now I'm totally freaked out.

- SGot a call yesterday from this number,, wants to verify address. They also called my daughters house. They need to state the company name.
- Not VerifiedI answered a call from this number and the person said they needed to verify my information to send a "required notice." She started asking for my address, which she already had and was trying to verify, I interrupted by asking what reason she had for asking. She said that she could not go into it until she verified my identity. I just told her that I am unable to verify her information and she ended the conversation.
It sounded like all I had to do was say yes to whatever she was asking me to get through it, which might mean that just anyone could answer and approve of whatever this "required notice" is. - Not your lawyerHere is my understanding of the collection strategy.
Each state has a different rule for STATUTE of LIMITATIONS on Unsecured Debt. Once the statute of Limitations runs out, they can no longer sue you in court.
The date to determine the beginning period, is usually the date of your LAST CONTACT.
Thereby, some flunky "from a lawfirm" calls, they get you to verify your social security number and address, and the statute of limitations begins again, and in many cases, they can now take you to court to collect the debt, even if the statute of limitations had previously expired.
Other events that MAY / MIGHT trigger the RESET could include making a payment, inquiring or otherwise verifying the debt, agreeing to a settlement or payment schedule. Search the internet for your state's rules, AND THE RULES of the STATE WHERE THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT WAS ISSUED. Those states laws may supersede your states laws in some cases.
If you owe debt, don't answer calls from numbers you don't know. After googling them xxx-xxx-xxxx put them on a phone BLOCK list. Many mobile and smart phones, and home phones can do this now, some upwards of 1000s of numbers.
If you want to resolve old debt, get the help of Professionals. Ensure they have long term solutions to maintaining and ultimately enhancing your credit score. CHECK THEIR REFERENCES, many bad / incompetent people/companies out there.
