This number called us today. Only came up as TOLL FREE so I don't know the "outfit" that was calling us. For some reason last night we got like 3 calls from LOANDEPOT within a half hour. Didn't leave any messages. We're not refinancing, or applying for loans or anything of the sort so they shouldn't be calling us. Today we got 2 calls in a row from LOANDEPOT again, there was barely any pause in the ringing between the calls. And we got a call from ROCKET MORTGAGE, just what the heck?! None of these calls ever left a message. A household member answered a call yesterday and didn't even look at who was calling and deleted the call log right away, but all these calls seem to have started because someone answered the phone to one of those spoof calls. We're on the do not call list. I keep telling people don't answer the phone if it's a spoof/unknown number cause if you answer it validates that your number is working etc and the scammers will target your number. The scary part this time is the scammer seems to know the numbers of loan type businesses and they keep spoofing them. Wow, just as I'm typing this LOANDEPOT is calling again, only rang 3 times though. They're getting spoofed badly right now is what it looks like. These other numbers too. Since they won't stop calling I'm blocking that number. Not sure what good it'll do though.

That is simply rubbish.  You would not need to answer the phone for them to know that the number is "valid".  There really isn't any need for them to know that anyway.  I would be willing to bet that someone went online and filled out a request for a loan and then put your phone number into the form so that they wouldn't get called.  They seem to be an actual mortgage company.  Since someone answered the phone what was the conversation about and why didn't you post that?
