called, no msg, no person, just a dead line

I'm wondering if there is a way to get these people using an automated dialer for violation of the do not call list.  I'm going to look into it, there has to be a way to sue them with a class action lawsuit because their dialer program is dialing lots of people randomly and not matching them against the do not call list.  This is just as annoying as the actual calls themselves, and legally is protected under the same rules.

Please let us know what you find out about possibly sueing these annoying calls.  They never leave a message and if I pick up the phone... there is no one there!

phone rings...answer.....no one there......then dial tone.....idiots.....do not call registry is totally ineffective!!!!!!!

I have received numerous calls from this number at my business. Two just today. When I pick up, there is no response and no noise for a few seconds, then the line goes dead. I can't imagine why someone would call or have an automatic dialer call and not have any message or person on the other end.

Since it was a toll free number, I decided to call it back to find out who would answer. The message said "Thank you for calling Embarq. A customer service representative will be with you shortly". I held for several minutes, intermittently hearing the message "Please continue to hold. An agent will be with your momentarily." When I finally got a real person, I explained that I had been called by this number several times a day over several days and when I pick up, the line goes dead. The representative appologized and explained that they are currently calling business customers to offer new services. Their automatic dialer is having problems and hangs up when the customer answers. And since they are not getting responses to the calls, it continues to call. After hearing the promotion they were attempting to call me with, I told them I wasn't interested and asked them to remove my number from their call list.

I've thought about calls like this.  Just got one a second ago.

It might be a company checking to see if you are home.  

You know.. the basic "Checking up on our customers" BS.  

Our Government SHOULD stop the war on Drugs..etc.  and begin to put these "Callers" in Jail.  They effect all of us.  Waste our time and lower our quality of life.  I don't know of anybody that would not want to see "Those people" spend a year or two behind bars.  It would END this BS once and for all! - GENE

I received a call from this number today and it was Embarq/Century Link offering a business phone bundle for $89.00 a month for unlimited local and long distance calls, 10 calling features, and high speed internet.

Thanks for that- I too called and told them to stop calling me. Funny thing is I got a live person when I answered a few days ago and told them I wasn't interested in any new phone options but the automated dead line caller kept calling. Thanks for letting me know who it was.

I am getting calls from this number.  I am on the do not call list.  How can I make them stop?

It's Century Link formerly Embarq. Call their Customer Service line 1-877-436-2277, press 0 for operator and request that you be placed on the NO marketing calls list. I did and if they call again after 24 hours I'll continue to list them on the do not call list.
