called and left no message

Called my telephone number today and asked for my deceased mother.  He said it was about her government refund check.  When I told him she'd passed away almost two years ago, he said he'd got the number from the government. Wrong, because the government has been informed she's deceased (filed with her last IRS return).  She lived with me before she passed away, but her name's not on my telephone number.  However, she'd give out my number on the loads of sweepstakes entries she'd send off daily.  I thought the bogus calls to her had stopped, but this week, they're averaging about five a day.

Did the guy say his name was Dan Wilson?

I got a "dead air" message on my phone - left at 1:50 pm. I hit *69 and got this number.

A woman called and identified herself as Joanna Jones and said I have been award a government check and later asked me about my bank number. She gave me a number 1-888-444-0374, but my caller ID picked up 1-888-404-4449.

Mother just recieved phone call from "Caroline Edwards" stating that she was eligible for a 5,000.00 government grant but that they needed her credit card number and 356.00 dollars. Called the number they provided and reached a voicemail message stating I had reached the Coporate Headquarters of Indentity Itegrity International.

Called on work line. Said I'd won $500,000 in a sweepstakes and they needed some information. Told them I had to leave for a meeting and asked for a name and number to call back. Got name John Adams, and a bogus number (tried calling it and got some poor guy who had no clue). Voice was mid-eastern accent.

Got a call from Dan Wilson, I too won a gov't grant due to the "cost of living."  Call back and they say Silver Securities.

Mother received a form to fill out asking for personal information. This form indicated that she had received a packet in the mail. It never really said what was in the packet. The fine print stated that she had agreed to let her information be passed on to a third party and that she had willingly given them her banking information as well as her credit card information. I believe she did give out the information because an amount of $395. was taken out of her account before we could close the account. The number 888-404-4449 only gave a message that the party could not be reached and that I would be disconnected. This is really sad that our seniors have to be subjected to these scams.

Got a call from a woman with an accent.  She asked me if i had received a grant or had anyone call me about one, I said i get grants for school every year.  She said something about a $5,000 grant.  I asked her what it was for and she said for whatever i wanted to use it for.  Before she got any farther in her pitch the call was disconnected.  Guess she thought college students are too smart to fall for giving out information.  Funny that not 30 min. earlier someone else with a similar accent called asking for my information claiming to be publishers clearing house.  I didnt give him any info either.  He gave me a bogus phone number to call and verify.

I got a call from this number today saying I was receiving a government grant but needed to pay a $400 processing fee.  when I question who she worked with and the fact this sounded like a scam, she hung up.

I got a call from this number today saying I was receiving a $5000.00 government grant but needed to pay a $400 processing fee charged to my credit card.  When I told her I didn't have any credit cards she quite nicely wished me fairwell and shaid my file would be closed.

Received this call only four minutes ago, asking my mother for personal BANKING information for her "government grant."
Lately we have found that lung power gets a lot accomplished with these bozos; raising one's voice and making demands intimidates the callers.
