- RachelComplete scammers. They grab info (illegally) off of your credit report, use that to say they are calling on behalf of (insert name of one of your credit accounts) and try to get you to panic and send them money. They "don't do business through the mail" according to the man I spoke with. They called me about an account that was paid off YEARS ago. They got my number from my brother, who has the same last name as me. Shot in the dark, huh. DO NOT call them back. They are just zombie-debt scammers.

- The InvestigatorThis is a NEW # that one of the scammers out here are using. they change numbers often bc they think if they keep changing it after a couple month at a time, that they wont get caught....wrong! As a person stated earlier in one of the comments, they said they do not do business through the mail. Please note: first call your states attorney general ( # can be found on Google). Second, while looking up the attorney generals number for your state, notice that the site will have info on how to recognize the difference between a scammer and a legit debt. ALL LEGIT DEBTS DO BUSINESS THROUGH THE MAIL AS IT IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THEM TO SEND NOTIFICATION OF THE DEBT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN ALSO A REQUIREMENT FOR THEM TO SEND YET ANOTHER NOTIFICATION WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF BUSINESS DAYS ONCE YOU REQUEST IT FROM THEM WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THEM. I believe they only have 5 business days to have the actual proof of debt sent to you but PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THE AMOUNT OF DAYS. IT IS CLOSE TO 5 DAYS IF NOT 5 DAYS! there are several other things they real debt collectors must do or laws that they must abide by. For example, you can request them tonot contact you at your place of employment anymore and you and your family members or friends together or alone can speak to them and let them know that you ask that they not contact your friend anymore or your family member. I would be sure to have your family member make the request. Let them know you have called your attorney general!
I have had real life personal experience with a scammer about 8 years ago and ever since it never stops! I actually was scammed and it will never happen again! Please do not be fooled by ANY threats should anybody ever try to threaten you. Im not saying that these guys are but Im saying that any place could and so beware! anybody saying that they will issue a warrant or that there has been a complaint against you and your social security number is a SCAMMER! Also do some research. Is your state one of the states that legally allows you to record your phone call conversations with only a 1 party consent ( being you ) ? If you only need 1 party, then understand that its in your best interest to record your conversation with these people or anybody suspicious for that matter. Take down notes and names and numbers, times and dates etc...
Lastly.....AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THIS HAPPENED TO ME! After that happened I have continued to hear from scammers again and again always making an attempt to collect something that's NOT real! Please understand you are doing yourself NO good by not doing anything about this and its not helping anybody else either. Please contact your states attorney general and report the info gathered and never erase voicemails. Approximately 2 and a half years ago I was receiving calls stating that there was a complaint against my social and that their office was going to be forced to take action nc they had not heard back from me. each time they called I would get a voicemail stating the same thing and each day it would state that they were going to file the complain with the court by the end of the day but that they would stop this if I called back that same day. if I would have called back I know how the conversation would have went.....them trying to collect money to magically make the issue go away. You also told that you will be subpoenaed at your work or home within the next 48 hours if you don't call back. Guess what? That time frame given comes and goes again and again with no subpoenas or anything else. The just stop calling eventually and later call back again using a different number after a month or 2 has gone by. So why is call the attorney general so important? Like I said I was scammed about 8 years ago and after they really kept pushing my buttons 2 and a half years ago I contacted the attorney generals office in my state. This time I didn't just make the complaint but I had kept the information like phone numbers and descriptions of my voicemails...fake names given and times and dates. the lady who helped was great and helpful. I thought that was that . I never expected to hear anything back about it. Little did I know I was wrong! Months had passed by.......I received a letter in the main from the attorney generals office. I was scared at first bc I was like oh my goodness this must be a big deal...what did I did I do lol? bc I did nothing! So, I was like what the heck! I opened the envelope just to find a detailed letter notifying me of several persons ( parties), the names first and last were included in which were charged with felony crimes. All of the crimes were listed and it gave a lot of detail with description as to what it was all about. The parties were indicted on felony charges in the state of New York. I do not live in New York. So now bc of all the complaints from people all across the nation, they were able to do an investigation and the people were having to answer for the crimes they committed against people. Furthermore, the letter stated that I could appear in court at a certain date and time and make a statement as I was one of the victims....... please note this was not the same people who actually got away with scamming me 8 years ago! if it weren't for that, what happened 8 years ago, I would have paid out thousands by now to scammers! It was so good to know that these people were facing real prison time due to scamming people. I knew at that point that my call did matter. I was just another person who made a complaint. if people don't call, they cant investigate. These people who ended up in a lot of trouble ended up having several complaints made about them obviously. This is why I took so much time to type all of this. I'm hoping to help someone else before they too get scammed. the last thing you want to do is give your money away along with your personal information. good luck!- Caller: 8884326813

- BigA replies to kevinUnlike the so called "investigator" there who only has it half right, here is what the law says. Within 5 days of first contact (either talking to you or if they leave a message) they must send you a dunning letter. That letter must contain the following:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
They do not have to send a letter out prior to first contact. Now, if and when you get that letter, or even if you don't get the letter, I would suggest that you do the following, because the law states that you must ask them in writing to validate the debt:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. - vKeep getting calls from EAS from different guys about a urgent delinquent matter does not say who they are trying to reach, what account they are trying to collect for or how much is owed. Seems like a complete scam. I would think a company that you owe money too would contact you via the mail with a letter that your account is being sent to collections because it is a delinquent or there is money's owed. My co-worker is getting the exact same phone calls for the same exact reason supposedly. They use new numbers and I keep blocking them from my phone.

- Stephanie Rodriguez| 2 repliesI've gotten scam calls before but this one is persistent. I get at least 2 voicemails a day from them and tonight I got one that was unlike the others. Normally is Greg or Tina from EAS with a case on their desk with my name and social security number and its imperative that I call them back. I never do although that may change today. I just received a voicemail from them stating that they were trying to get in contact with my sister(used her name) and that my number was listed as person to contact in case she can't be reached. I haven't really paid too much mind to these calls as its not the first time I've gotten one but this is too sketch now. How do they know my sisters name and what else do they know?
