Got a call this morning supposedly from Bank of America fraud department saying my on-line transfer didn't go through and that I should call 1-888-436-8828 before 5 p.m. It sounded as though the peson was reading from a card rather than speaking naturally so I think this may be a scam. I will call Bank of America myself at a different number to verify the legitimacy of the oringinal call.

I got a call around the time I did an online wire transfer. However, an email from BofA confirmed the wire transfer was successful. When I called the number the person asked why I called. I was surprised by that and said you called me. THen he asked if I had made a recent transaction. I said a wire transfer, he said he would check it out. Then he said what is your account number. I said I am not comfortable giving it out over the phone and he said 'Thank you and goodbye.' I felt it was a scam. Then I called BoA and related the story, they said it is a good idea not to give your account number over the phone, and pretty much 'good bye'

    here is my story
    - made a transfer
    - got a call asking to call this number, plus my online banking account was frozen
    - called main number at BoA they had no clue and said all was OK
    - called their fraud detection department and they had no clue and said all was OK
    - called their online banking and they were savvy and said if you try to transfer more than 10K (mind you system does NOT say that) it will treat it as suspicious activity and close your account

bottom line: the left hand at Bank of America does not know what the other left hand is doing

Hello all, this is actually the phone number for Bank of America's e-commerce department. It is legitimate, they place phone calls to verify wire transfers. :) Have a great day!

Also, the previous post by Dmitry is inaccurate. A wire transfer cannot be processed for more than $10,000 without SafePass. There is no way an account can be closed due to this so-called "suspicious activity," because a wire transfer will fail to initiate if SafePass is not activated. However, a phone call will be placed from (888)436-8828 if ANY first-time wire transfer is initiated, no matter what the amount may be. This is for the security of the customer's account; to ensure that no money is leaving without the approval of the customer. Bank of America's security measures are top-of-the-line and the consumer service associates are highly trained to assist and protect customers. :) Have a great day!

Totally Fraudulent number. Not at all Bank of America. Do not give any information to this number!

I got a call from them requesting confirmation of a wire transfer.  They said the wrong name on the voice mail and said the wrong amount of transfer over the phone.  Given my suspicion, I called Bank of America customer service to verify it is a legitimate bank of america number and they assured me it is a legitimate bank of america number.  They just happen to hire a bunch of seemingly incompetent people to man the fraud division.

I got a call from them a little while ago. I researched that number and found this post. Just to be sure I called Bank of America back to verify. This is a legit number and they confirmed it IS them.

It is a legitimate phone number...however, if you dont feel comfortable giving out you banking and personal information out, call the main Bank of America phone number behind your debit card and they will warm transfer your call.  Hope this helps!!

Got a call from this number too, also after I set up a transfer online from Bank of America to another bank.  It's legitimately BOA, but what I want to know is why would they call customers like this, when anyone with any sense would find it suspicious.  There's got to be a better way for them to verify transfers.

Got this call after I did an online wire transfer, the caller asking for xxxxxxx but I couldn't hear her clearly and I said excuse me? She then just hung up the call. I called the number and its from Bank of America but it seems rather unprofessional for her to just hang up and not calling back if it's really to verify info.

Just got a call from this number. They called my job instead of calling my cell phone number. I called BOA right after and they told me the number is real. They called after I set up a wire transfer. I told them to not call my work anymore.

Just got a call from this number on my cell phone.  It had no Caller ID.  I do not have a account with BOA, nor have I done any wire transfers or any other kind of business with them.  They left no message.  I'm not going to follow up by calling BOA, but it seems from the other messages that there's quite a bit of confusion as to the legitimacy of this number.   I'm treating it as SPAM and ignoring it.

This is a legit phone number. However, if you choose to call a different BofA number, they will transfer you around and you'll spend quite a bit of time on the phone. It took me about 20 mins. to get this issue resolved, after I talked to at least 3 different people and several automated services.

I did a wire transfer today.  Someone called me from this number, asking vague questions about transaction activity.  He asked if I would tell him my driver's license number and I said "NOPE.. you called me.  But I will call the number on the back of the card and tell them".  Turns out it was all OK, but don't EVER give out that kind on info to ANYONE that calls you.  ALWAYS call the number on the back of the card.  The caller ID on the incoming call that you receive can very easily be 'spoofed' to look like any number the bad guy wants it to be.

This number is real, after an hour trying to get information from 1 (800) 432-1000, typical customer service number from Bank of America, the confirmed that they sent the email to make sure that I set up the wire transfer.
