- peterFirst of all if they threaten you with wage garnishment tell them to go to hell. The most they can do is put a judgment on your credit. This number calls me and ask 4 someone I have never heard of and they keep calling...
I want to bend the guy over and take a broom handle and do u no what to him- Call type: Debt collector
- SuzetteThey have been calling my job for awhile now...I picked up on one occasion because they were very rude to the owner's wife...when I picked up the person (man- don't even want to refer him as that) on the other end proceeded to yell at me when I told him this is a place of business and if he had personal business with me to call me at home. His response was "you can run but you can't hide forever" and hung the phone up on me.
Now this morning there's a message from a Jeff Mueller wanting me to return his call. - SamuelThey called my cellphone >3 times everyday.
- H SThey are calling a 9-year-old's cell phone number, which we have had in the family for at least a few years, about a dozen times during school in the last 2 days. When I call back, "just a moment, some one will be with you shortly, and click... "
This is definitely illegal... 1-cellphone 2-minor 3-no identification...
The kid barely knows how to open a web browser... at least he knows not to talk to strangers. - aCan get your telephone provider to arrange a DNC on your behalf. Documented. Fines.
Request a DNC for ALL affiliated/associated/connected companies. - Mistyi am a single mother of two children. I am also a full time student. When they first called about a debt, I told them I could only afford to pay them 10- 20 dollars a month. They refused and began arguing with me so I ended the call. now they call up to 4 times a day! I tried blocking their calls but its not allowed for toll-free numbers.....SO FRUSTRATING!!

- Twitchey replies to ACOLTON| 1 replythis email was some of the worst advice i have heard...
YOU NEVER IGNORE A SUMMONS...
BUT HERE ARE YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS!!!
you never have to pay a collection company...
however if you owe the bill you do have to pay the original debtor...
no one can ever threaten you but what you do have to remember is that you do have to prove how they behave and just saying that they are behaving badly is not proof BUT WHAT IS PROOD IS RECORDING THEM!!!
you can go to radio shack and pick up a tape player and a nice little gadject for under 30.00 that u hook up and it records both sides of teh conversation...
i use it all the time for business deals and any arraigements i make whether they be bill collectors or aggreements...
its your best friend because it doesnt lie...
also its a great tool to file suit on when collection companies step over the line :-)
all you have to do is send them a certified letter with a return receipt to stop contacting you and to send you a copy of the bill along with the original debotor and signed agreement...other than that you never deal with a collection company...
you can go to the original debotor and pay them even if its 10.00 a month...
if you owe 500.00 and u pay the original debotor than on YOUR CHECK or MONEY ORDER (i prefer checks cause u dont lose the receipts)you than put in the memo part balance owing 490.00 and etc...onc ethey accept that it is binding...if they kick it back that is grounds for a l;awsuit...
every state is slightly different BUT THE FEDERAL LAW is the same in every state and they cannot harrase you once you notify them in writting BUT u have to do it by way of certified mail with a return receipt or how else will you PROVE YOU SENT IT!!! than you state in your letter that 7 business days from the date that they sign for it that they cannot contact you by way of any means or else you can specify it...
also i would contact my state attorney generals office and ask how THWEY CAN HELP YOU cause they can...
u have to act liek this to take down these so called collection companies...not all collection companies are bad..(and i hate to say that)if we owe somebody than i want to pay the original person NEVER THE COLLECTIOON COMPANY... - twitchey replies to JH in Bostonthe link is broke
- Beka replies to TwitcheyThey call me anywhere from 730am-850pm its getting rediculous. The only reasons my account went into collections is because when I called the original crediter the guy was very rude when I said I would call back when I can find a way to pay. He said "then its a refusal to pay and it will go to a ocllections agency" That's not a refusal to pay, calling you back when i can pay is no refusal. But theni got a letter from them so i decided to try again. I called them back and wanted to payit they told me I had to deal with the collections agency from now on...and now the collections agency has been rude, calling at odd times and even on weekends, and being rude when they leave me messages.

- dental office in Ilinoiswe are a dental office with an emergeny cell phone. When the staff member saw a call had been made while she was in a meeting she returned the call listed on the caller id. A woman came on line and after the staff member said who she was and could she be of assistance {thinking it was a patient with an emergency} she was told she was drunk and it was fraud to deny who she really was. My staff member tried in vain to explain who and from were she was calling and got cut off very rudely by woman with P.R.I. by cuss words and extremely interuppting. This is not a way to conduct business even if you are a collection company which they deny they are. I called to speak to a manager and person I was talking to said "he was the next person to a manager there " he told me the call was recorded and my staff member was the rude person. I told him she has worked here for 4 years and everyone of our patiens like her and all of the staff, and if he really listened to the tape he would know how rude his fellow workwoman acted to my staff member, he said he had listened and we were the rude ones and hung up on me.

- bakingThis number called my cell phone and left a voice message. Can they call cell phones with this type of garbage? The voice message was a digital voice and asked if I was someone and by continuing to listen I agree I am that person. I am not that person. The voice message went on and on...So I hung up. Someone should stop these people.
The number showed up only. Has anyone had any luck getting these people to quit harassing them? - frustrated call receiverNo relationship to who this company keeps asking for. They continue calling several times a day. I told them we do not know the person they are asking about. I told them to delete my number from their calling list. However they keep harrasing us several times a day.

- AlfalfaHere's how to stop them:
Inform them the next time they call you will be filing a lawsuit against them for TCPA and FDCPA violations if the calls continue:
Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.
Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.
This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc. NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls. In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc. Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.
David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors. Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call. Judge Davis wrote;
[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.
Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.
So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?
1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
3. Contact a consumer lawyer.
