Had a call last night from Kaiser Permanente saying my license key was expired and I needed a new one. That I would have to call a number and pay for a new key. I am not calling them!

Just had the same experience as the two people above. Left me a message on my answering machine. Jerks. Scares me that some people are falling for this garbage. Wish they could get these people and throw them all in jail forever.

This morning my elderly mother received a phone message: “This is an emergency call. The license key of your Microsoft Windows has expired. To renew license please call 1- 888-479-5333.”  I returned the call for my mother and a male with a heavy accent answered and told me my computer would be “shut down” if I did not renew my license. Couldn't explain to me why a license key would expire for Windows. Said the computer would stop working. Swore he was calling from Windows Tech Support in Albany, NY. anticipate it's related to this scam...

Same story as above. With all the technology we have available, there should be a way we can shut these people down down quickly and prosecute them.

Considering most of "these people" are overseas, there's little we can do to shut them down. But you can block the numbers they call from and even the area code with some blockers.

The folks are 'spoofing' Kaiser phone number.  They claim your computer license is expiring trying to get your bank information.  Do not call them back or talk to them.

Answering machine picked up as a somewhat robotic female voice gave a warning that my computer license key had expired, and I should call 1-888-479-5333 to fix the problem.  Seems to me that in order to get phone service for that number, someone has to leave some sort of information about themselves that could be used to help track down and prosecute these scammers.

Remember about 2007, seeing these TV ads pitching these external hard drive devices that purportedly allowed you FREE nation and world wide Internet Telephone service??  Tech savvy crooks overseas,  bought huge BOXES of these things---and began using them to REACH YOU. The FTC ( along with Homeland Security ), shut the U.S. manufacturer of these devices AFTER it was too late. These crooks have the technology to "spoof" any number they create---even your OWN home number, just to show you WHO they are!!--and you can't trace their call!!  Oh, the FEDS CAN ( and have ) traced these calls---but they're sourced overseas, out of U.S. jurisdiction--so the Do Not Call Registry can't touch these guys.

Also got a call. When I used my "block number" option it gave the number 415-763-6830 instead 888-479-5333.

At 210 Eastern Time I got the same call. I didn't answer but I listened to the message they left. Same as above, something about a Microsoft license. I don't have my phone number attached to any of my components and I don't have any Microsoft products. I wish we could warn anyone who is vulnerable out there.

I got the same apparent scam call.  They leave a message that you need to renew a 'computer key'
and ask you to call their number.  One would think it  should be easy to figure out who owns that
number and cause the phone companies to shut it down.  Apparently no one cares or it is
harder to do than it would seem.  Its one thing to spoof the called from number, but when they give
you a call back number that should be traceable to an owner.

I just had the same thing happen, but Kaiser and Microsoft are not related so I Googled the number and ended up here at scam alert.
