- Danielle replies to Lee Ann| 2 repliesI got the same exact message today!!! I actually called back to play along since I’m now married and they had my maiden name. They tried to say it was a Pay Day Loan that I took out in 2012 with a bank account I closed in 2009! I know it’s not legit and they were trying to get me to pay $576 to avoid it going to court! When I laughed and said I’m not paying a dime, I don’t even know who this is, the woman got really nasty and said “Fine! Then it’s going to the courts and we are suspending your license!” And hung up on me LOL!!! Since when do debt collectors have The ability to suspend your drivers license????!!!! It was all very sketchy to say the least!
- Danielle replies to DanielleThe scary thing is, they had the last 4 of my social and date of birth!
- BigA replies to DanielleThey do not and never have had the ability to suspend a driver's license.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
