- sophieScam beware this is not the number to Nelnet. A google search for this company resulted in the scam number. Before calling Nelnet check their written correspondence it is a different phone number. The google number reported above ask me if I wanted direct tv for a 100$ off among other things. I reported this to Nelnet
- Call type: Telemarketer
- cmh replies to YOLY74| 4 repliesthey often neglect to give good notice on changes but depending on what it is some of their agreements allow them to get away with it and they only have to provide written info of the change as a courtesy if they want. You may want to check out a library or something with faster internet so your loans don't get messed up because they're hard to fix once you have a problem. they do have the income payment plans with you can opt in via web too.
- cmh replies to Linda| 1 replyits Nelnet. "Samantha" probably owes on their student loan/s. They probably have the wrong number listed if you call and get to the main menu where it asks for your account # or social security # you can say representative and it should give you a person where you should be able to tell them the situation.
- BigA replies to cmh| 3 repliesNothing like providing timely advice to someone who clearly posted here 6 years ago (the first hint should have been the date under the screen name).
- BigA replies to cmhBoy you are simply a regular cheerleader for these crooks aren't you? Maybe NelNet should do their homework first and actually call the right phone number? Why are you here defending them to begin with?
- Doug replies to tiredI'm guessing it didn't just ignore such.
- Doug replies to BigA| 2 repliesNot necessarily. These numbers hang around for some time. My wife got a call yesterday; I searched for the number; here we are, BigA. :-)
A related number FYI is 866-761-9991.
I usually leave replies when they can be helpful to another newbie, maybe. - Doug replies to MatthewFolks, notice the varied responses to follow-ups. Makes me suspucious; suspicious means 'ignore', to me.
- Kat replies to DougMaybe in that case just post a comment instead of replying to a years' old post?
- BigA replies to DougSo how does that relieve any debt collector from actually doing some research first and making sure that they are calling the right party and that they actually owe the debt? We see it over, and over, and over here where debt collectors do not do anything more than dial any and every number they can find with the same name. Rewarding them or making excuses for them for being lazy will not solve the problem.
By the way, I see you did not post in that thread. Why? - Kenthey called looking for my full social security number "to take me off their list". Said they didn't have my phone number, well, they keep CALLING my PHONE. They have my number, that's crap.

- AnonymousIt's a toll free# registered to a David Vomhof/Nelnet. Called, left message that student loan forbearances end on May 1st, and arrangements need to be made to pay them, when they expire. Returned call, recording said it was Nelnet.

- Mac| 2 repliesGoogle Nelnet's "website"--which in itself has that creepy suspicious vibe from it.
Now, check out the OFFICIAL Better Business Bureau report on Nelnet:

Draw your own conclusions- Caller: ROBOCALLER
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- MikeHuntleton replies to MacThe BBB, really?!? That is a privately owned website and is not as reliable as people are lead to believe.
You really need to get better at researching, as the very first website that displayed in a search brought me to this:
https://studentaid.gov/app/additionalInformation.action
Nelnet is the very first one on the list found right on that government website.
Of course there is always a possibility that scammers can spoof this number and try scamming someone, but draw your own conclusions based on all the information and not rely on someone's vague research.
