I received a letter today with this phone number.  The letter was purportedly from Countywide offering to determine eligibility for a home loan mortgage modification program.  Not sure why I would have received it since I do not need a loan modification.  Not sure if it is legitimate. . .

I received a letter today with this phone number also.  The letter was purportedly from National City Bank, also offering mortgage modification program info, our loan was recently sold and is no longer with National City, so I'm sure it isn't them.  Another lender trying to drum up business I'm sure.

I got a letter with this number too.  Although it says "Re: Washington Mutuals Bank Fa" it does not state this letter is from them.  Therefore, I don't think it's from my bank.
It might even be a fraud because it says "you should be prepared to give financial information" on the letter.  Give financial information to whom I don't even know???  it's really fishy.

I received a letter yesterday from Flagstar Bank regarding all of the above.  It is not from my bank because number 1 it does not reference my loan number and number 2 it does not have the Flagstar Bank logo.  It must be fraud.

Received a notice in the mail Re: Wells Fargo Bank.  I do indeed need to refi, but I'm not going to "be prepared to give financial information pertaining to [your] income and expenses".

I got the same letter as most of the people here.  I know it' not from my bank although it referenced my mortgage.  
It doesn't have a return address
Company Name not listed
It doesn't reference my actual account number.


Who do you contact to get this crooks???

I also received a letter with this phone number listed.  There is no bank or company name on the letter but they claim to be contacting me regarding a government sponsored loan modification program.  It also states that I should be prepared to give financial information to them...

This has got to be a scam! Like the last person to comment, I hope someone knows the appropriate watchdog agency to find these crooks before they steal anyone's money.

Do NOT throw the letter away.  Use it to file fraud complaints with the Postal Service, HUD (Housing and Urban Development) and your state's Consumer Affairs division.  www.hud.gov for one, make a copy of the junk and send a written complaint with the copy to Postal Inspector, your city and state and ZIP code and you can find your state's consumer affairs agency online.  Might want to contact any local TV consumer protection person on your local news, they love stuff liek this.

If you can, save the envelope also..postmark etc can be helpful plus it proves they used the U.S. Mail to commit their probably fraud.

The only way to stamp out these roaches is for everyone who gets their junk to make formal and loud complaints.  They are clearly violating a number of loaws bith state and federal.

HUD takea a very dim view of these people and loves to get formal complaints.  There are strict Federal guidelines for these companies and the letter I got if typical violates a number of them.  It also quote state law in my state but the law quoted only aplies to themortgage holder or other legal entities connected to your mortgage, which I will wager they cannot even tell you your mortgage company when you call but try to winkle the info out of you.

Thank you for your suggestions!! I am going to do waht you said.  This is not the first letter like this that I've gotten, but I will save any others and turn them in. You just KNOW that some people are being sucked in to waht has to be a SCAM. Sad!
