    Caller: County Processing Division
    Called from: 919-629-3852

Caller advised they were calling from County Processing Division, provided a "Case Number" and asked to call 888-493-5960. When calling 888-493-5960, they advised they are Trustmark National calling about a debt owed with US Bank that has resulted in a complain in my county. They couldn't provide a county court case number. They represented themselves as an attorney's office.

This is a normal method of trying to scare people into paying them money. They are a scam, and should be treated with caution.

There are TWO violations in that call --1. They claim to be a government (county) employee and 2.  they  claim to be a lawyer.

Got a call from a local call from (201) 620-9321, caller is an african american lady, asking for my sibling (so wrong number to begin with). When I asked what this is about, she stated that this is regarding a civil matter, that he is being sued in Monroe County in New York, that they are trying to avoid him having to go to court so he needs to call 1888 493 5960 and gave me a reference number. When I asked if she is calling from the county's office or an attorney office, she said no, she just handles the "notification".

    I called the number

A lot of posters on 800notes complain they get many calls from scammers.
A few posters state they get hardly any.
Why the difference?  Here are possible reasons.

Click on the associated "Info" button under any statement to read why NOT to use that method.

Answering the phone when the caller's number is unfamiliar.
    Info01
Instead of answering, let the call go to voicemail or answering machine.  Legitimate callers will usually leave a message.

Pressing a number "to be taken off the list"
    Info02
That works for legitimate telemarketers, but, if you were on the Do Not Call list, legitimate telemarketers would not have called you in the first place.  Pressing a number on a call from a telespammer merely confirms you answered the phone and will follow scammer's instructions.  That make your number more valuable for even more spammers!

    Returning the call.
    Info03
At best, returning a scammer's call merely confirms your phone is "live", and your number will be added to a list that will be used by even more scammers.  At worst, the call will cost you additional fees, if it is from a foreign country, such as Jamaica (876 area code).  Also, scammers are now spoofing Caller IDs, so the number you see may not really be the number that called you.  It might belong to an innocent, third party.

    Arguing with the caller:
    Info04
Call center employees have probably heard your argument many times.  They may either continue to try to scam you, or they will hang up ... but will also make sure some other scammer calls your number, later.

Blowing a horn or whistle into the phone:
    Info05
Will irritate the scammer.  The scammer may then add your number as a "spoofed Caller ID", so others think YOU are calling them, and YOU may hear retaliatory horns or whistles if the irritated called person calls YOU back!

Forwarding the call to a government office.
    Info06
Not too swift.  All that does is tie up a line at the govt office, and record YOUR number as the forwarding number!  Realize that your congress person knows phone scams are a problem, and also knows the FCC and FTC have been assigned the task of upholding the laws concerning this problem.  Instead, you should report the problem via normal channels to the FTC or FCC.

Giving or forwarding the supposed scammer's phone number to other scammers.
    Info07
May not be a good idea.  The 1st scammer might have used a spoofed phone number, and, if you give it to other scammers, all you are doing is causing more calls to and problems for an innocent person.

    Getting a new phone number
    Info08
Eventually, after getting many scam calls, some people think their only recourse is getting a new number.  That is not true.  The "new number" is probably somebody else's "old number", and will come accompanied with its own baggage (and calls).

    What you SHOULD do:
If you are disturbed by frequent calls from scammers / spammers. obtain a call blocker app, device, phone, or service.  Google is your friend.  Remember, the Do Not Call list is designed to prevent calls from registered telemarketers, but scammers / spammers do not register, and they ignore that policy!

    Remember
The DNC list is NOT a call blocker!

I received a call from what appeared to be a local Arkansas phone number. When I answered it, a male stated he is with the county I live in litigation office. But the number he called from was in a completely different county within the state. RED FLAG one!  He then continues to tell me that somebody has filed a civil case against me and it's important that I call the 1-888-493-5960 number for further information. He acted concerned that somebody might take me to court without my knowledge. RED FLAG two! I then asked for his name and what company he is with, he again stated the LOCAL county office, yet his accent was not those of the small country town women whom I know work in that office. RED FLAG three! The caller then stated a specific case number which I know is certainly not the correct format for a civil case number in my local area. THIS IS A SCAM! I'm definitely not going to call the number for any further information and I would not recommend anyone else doing it.

These people have contacted me and my husband claiming that someone is suing me in civil court...when u call the number they claim to be a law firm but won't give you any information on their firm or what they do..they ask you for you ss# don't give it to them!!! If someone was really suing you they would already have this information and they would not be contacting you from a 1-888 number.  They don't stop calling.  Report them1/888/493-5960

They call family, friends, and neighbors to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.

Search your name on the internet.  There are sites that list relatives, friends, etc.  Pictures of your home, street level and satellite view.  Big Brother is watching.  Nothing is private anymore.

    This fax number appears here:  http://www.faqle.com/legal/need-professional- ... gas-nv-1051642/  (2014)

Mentions something called the Lincoln Group (LG Group) and another,  Portfolio Solutions.  The      "Lincoln Group" is basically a zombie organization with no legal existence that anyone can find.  No group called Portfolio Solutions that deals in debt collection, that I can find either.

The name James O'Neal appears on 800notes 909-284-9032 as working for Sage Lincoln financial legal firm.  I'm sure it's the same as the "Lincoln Group".

    _______________________
This is what I've been able to find out about this group of scammers:

    slfinancial.net  (parked site)

Sometimes ID themselves as S & L Financial a so-called "mediation and legal office" which is scammer double-talk for debt collector.

Supposedly Sage Lincoln Financial Firm, in Ontario CA.

According to an entry date 6-12-2015 at 844-416-7133 on 800notes, they have a mail drop address at: 3281 East Gausti Road, 7th Floor, Ontario, California, 91761

This Gausti Road address is also used by Westpoint Group another scamming outfit.

Can't find anything in the records of the Secretary of State of California.

    See also:  https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-909-284-9032   6-19-2015

Often say they are a law firm or a litigation firm, or that they are going to serve you with process or that a law suit is pending.  Total scam operation.
