888-498-0390

I got an email purporting itself to be from Hyundai North America. They claimed if I called the 888-498-0390 number or clicked on their link, it would take me to their Customer Recall Center or something like that. They even had my car's VIN number - I checked against my registration. They claimed that they had for my car a FREE software upgrade to combat car thieves' ability to easily start a Hyundai with a USB cord.

Here's the thing: I knew IMMEDIATELY that it was my good friends from ScamCo LLC trying (and failing REPEATEDLY) to rip me off once again. Their scam is brilliant in its own way: using car thief tactics thats in the news to commit their own crimes. Kudos, ScamCo! Kudos!

Car manufacturer's send out recall notices by mail, not by email. They consult State DMV's database for the cars under recall, get the current registration info including the physical address and then mail out a postcard.

Anyone who falls for this scam is an idiot or a buffoon or both.

The post above is incorrect. For newer Hyundai models they're offering a technological upgrade to your anti-theft. I've received mail with that exact phone number as they're offering me just the ol' steering wheel lock due to being an older model.

Do your research before misleading people. Hyundais are being stolen everywhere.
