This company called me threatening to sue me over some ancient bogus debt. When I tried to clarify who they were, where they're located, or ANY other info, the caller "Judy #104" got irate, rude, threatening, and then hung up on me...
They continued to call my work number... What a joke, but if you don't know any better, they will try to intimidate and harrass you.
DON'T ANSWER OR CALL THEM BACK!

I recieved a phone call from this number threatening to sue me over a debt that they said was acquired in 2003 over 13 years ago they were rude and harrassing me and saying if i didn't pay them right then that they would be serving me court papers. i tried to explain if i did owe it i would pay it but i wanted proof of the debt and to have them please send me some. their response was we don't do that but we will send you court papers instead when i asked if they would pay a debt over the phone that they didn't know about to a company that they wouldn't even give me their name they got irate with me and the final things they said was see you in court. i'm  not sure if its a scam or real.

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Almost fell for this. Told them I needed written confirmation and the guy on the phone got very belligerent and then hung up on me. At that point I called back (just for fun) and he was actually very hostile.
