I also got a letter in the mail. It wasnt afterwards that i realized the letter did not have Allstate's symbol on it. What happened was it was saying i was trying to get a quote from them (i was not) and needed a credit check. I called the number, being an idiot, and gave them all of my information. I was trying to make sure it wasnt identity theft. Later on i realized it could have been a trap, i just gave them everything.
Im very worried I just gave someone my identity.

Call Allstate using a number from their website or your local phone book, and ask if this number is theirs. If not, you've given your ID away and should prepare for ID theft as I assume "needed a credit check" means you've given away your SSN, DOB and full name. Don't delay, act now.

I received the same letter, stating the same thing, although after caling Allstate directly from a number I located on their website I was advised that they really do send these type of letters out depending on your state.
The letters do not always mean that you are turned down, it could be that you are requesting a quote from a different address than you were previously living at, or they spelt you name wrong and Transunion red flaged it. For more information I would call TransUnion or the local Allstate.

    Not naive
Fraud. I received a letter with this number in the contact information for TransUnion. The letter is supposed to be from Allstate but it doesn't resemble any previous correspondence. Lastly, Allstate doesn't use credit reports to determine policy rates. Geico and some others do but not Allstate.

I also received a letter from Allstate stating I was turned down for a quote for insurance which I did not request. And asked me to call the same number 888-503-0048 to get a free credit report if I wanted to dispute any of the things listed (which were false). I looked up the number for TransUnion and it was different. Be very very cautious call Allstate directly and Transunion directly do not use the numbers on the letter you receive.

If you were actually turned down then I would suggest that you also get a free credit report from LexisNexus.  They are the major go to outfit for information on people that all insurance companies use.  They are also one of the biggest screw ups when it comes to your information.
