Scammer!

Left a garbled message that ended saying if I did not call the-number that was left there would be legal actions taken.

Scam trying to steal from you and threatens you. Ignore. Do not answer or call back.

Left a threatening message that sounded garbled or computerized-ish. Stated that I needed to call back a Charlie Williams at 1-888-503-2917 immediately or there would be legal action taken against me, and from what I could hear it had something to do with my IP address on my computer. I typed the phone # into whitepages.com for a reverse phone lookup and a Red Exclamation point pulled up "HIGH POSSIBLE SCAMMER DETECTED!"

Same with me.

He left a computerize message on my phone concerning a IP number defect problem and to call this number and if I  did not respond legal actions will be taken against me. So I looked this number up and found out that others are experiencing the same thing,  that this person could be a possible scammer.

This is a big scam please do not fall for it they will take your money.  Please report them and warn others about this scam. They are in India looking for victims  there is nothing wrong with your computer.

i RECEIVED THE SAME GARBLED MESSAGE ON WED. DEC 27TH

The is a SCAM.  They want you to call them so that they can take control of your computer to fix the problem.  If you let them have control of your computer, they will send you a virus and then want hundreds of dollars to fix it.  This is the message:  "This is officer Charlie Williams from Windows security headquarters. We are receiving  genuine errors and warning messages from your computer for the last 2 weeks. So before we permanently block and delete your IEP address , we need to know if this was done intentionally by you. If not so call 888-503-2917.  This is your final message.  If you do not return the call legal action will be taken against you."

Same with me on January 2, 2018. Claiming to be with Microsoft Soft Windows Security. Semper Fi

Charlie called today. Left the threatening message. What I don’t get is why, when they leave a call back number, the government cannot catch these guys.

yah, i have an urgent problem with my windows security and have to call them back or legal action will be taken. if i could spoof a number i'd call them back just to tie them up for a while. i have no windows products! lol scam and scary that seniors and those not with the right papers to be here could give them money. sigh

I received the same message but I think from a Charlie Owens regarding my IEP address.  I could barely understand the message.  I always Google any 800 or 888 number to see if it is legit.  Thanks everyone for the information regarding this scam.

SOB scammer threat, same as everyone else is receiving.

Same message.  Claimed to be from Windows Security and threaten law suit if don't respond.  Definitely sound like SCAM

Also, at the end of the message it says, “good luck”. Hilarious. Losers.

Received the same message from Charlie threatening legal action if I don't return the call. Three calls now in the last week. Hope people research and find threads such as this before responding to these scams.

Best is to ignore these call, but I got three in two days so I decided to waste his time.  I called the number and because I know absolutely nothing about computers followed his instructions very, very slowly.  When we got to Teamviewer, which is a program that would give him access to my computer I said to the side, "Can you wait a moment?" and told him to hold on.  I then played several games of Plants vs. Zombies while he waited.  When he finally asked if I was there I told him that I was and then (because I know nothing about computers) tried to get back to Teamviewer (gee - I kept typing Teemviewer).  He was getting rather impatient with my fumbling around. Once he finally got me back to the website I told him that I was getting hungry and was going to get a sandwich.  Right now he is waiting for me to get back and I have taken about 40 minutes of his time.  How long will he wait before he gives up on me?  Hard to say, but at least that has been 40 minutes taken from his ability to scam someone else.  (FWIW, I got my first computer in 1981 and worked as a programmer for 25 year.)

Charlie Williams has called me for 3 days in a row leaving that same message.  I figured it had to be a scam.  I did get a kick out of the end of the message after threatening legal action, he says "good luck".
