A man named Bill Woods, stating he was from a company called Provest left messages with my mother-in-law (who I do not live with or even in the same state), telling her that he needed to get in touch with me.  2 days ago, I called the number he left for me.  I was transferred to him from an operator.  When he answered the phone, I explained to him who I was and that I was returning his phone call.  He asked me if I had a reference number and I explained that I did not, so he said he was looking for me by my last name.  He indicated that he had found me, but that I needed to verify my address for him.  When he asked me to verify my address, I asked him what this pertained to.  He told me that he was updating a database for a client of his who feels they may have incorrect information for me.  I asked him who the company was that needed this information and he explained to me that it was probably a mortgage company or a financial company, but that he is not given the name of the institution.  Again he asked me to confirm my information, which led me to ask him what the company he works for is. He never gave me a precise answer as to what exactly Provest does.  He told me that I could go to their website to check out the company, so I did and I still was not satisfied with giving this man my information.  I explained to him that if whatever company was needing my information could send something to me by mail and I would mail it back, but that I was not giving him any information of the phone.  He said ok and asked again if the address he had on file was correct.  I told him that I was not confirming that information. By this point we had been on the phone several mins and he was beginning to get upset with me.  His voice raised and he told me that he was not asking me to give him any personal information only to confirm what "his client" had on file.  With his voice still raised he told me that he  has been for 40 years and that he also had my dob and ssn and began to read off my ssn and that he only needs me to verify it.  He then lowered his voice and told me that he is not suppose to give out his client's name that he is getting my info for, but that the client requesting this info is America's Servicing Company (who my mortgage is with) I explained to him that I would be contacting my lawyer of this conversation, but that ours was finished and I hung up the phone.

I contacted the FTC about this and filed a complaint with them.  The gentleman I spoke with there gave me an 800 number for the credit bureaus and he explained to me that I needed to call them and report this and get  a fraud alert on my credit.  Additionally, I contacted my lawyer as well as America's Servicing Company.  When I spoke with ACS, I explained to them what had just happened and the lady I spoke with was very concerned.  She explained to me that they do not sell their clients information nor have third parties solicit for information on their customers.  She suggested that I file a fraud alert with them and I did.  Again I contacted Americas Servicing Company this morning and they ensured me that they do not know of this Provest Company and she reassured me that they do not have third party companies involved in their affairs.

This is the information I have on the man I spoke with from Provest.

Company was called Provest; Bill Woods was the name of the man I spoke with; contact number is 888-519-0028; the website is www.provest.us; he told me he worked out of Dallas, TX and that the company has a home office in Tampa, FL.

Currently I have contacted and filed fraud/complaints with: my mortgage, the 3 Credit Bureaus, Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau, my bank, my lawyer, and the VP over Florida Operations. I will continue my efforts in getting to the bottom of this ambiguous incident until I am satisfied with the end result.

** Please be aware that this "Bill Woods" was extremely friendly in the messages he left with my in laws and gives off the impression that he is a long lost friend of who he is trying to get the info on. **

    SKIP TRACER

I hate to spoil the party, but Provest is a legit SKIP TRACING company, licensed in Texas. ASC probably just didn't want to say that they are associated with them. But there is no Fraud going on here. Look online at the company--they are huge in the Real Estate/Mortgage industry. Check out their Tampa office/corporate. They should be able to let you know. Once again, this company PROVEST is legit. They usually work in the foreclosure industry.

    Duh! replies to SKIP TRACER
ProVest may be a legit company but that does not mean that they are performing legit activities.  It seems very suspect to me.  It isn't right that they spend their time and efforts trying to identify the location of people for clients that already have that information.  Duh! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize they are up to no good.  They may perform some legit activities, but all I am familiar with smells awful fishy.  I would avoid them like the plague.

Someone called my Parents house saying they were trying to reach us. They told my parents that they had a package for us and wanted to verify the address to send it too. I too used American Servicing Company. I have yet to call them about this matter but rest assure I will. I would just like to know how they get the phone numbers of relatives if their numbers are supposed to be unlisted and unpublished.

They are private investigators. You can look that info up for yourselves with any state agency. They are PI's. That's how they get the unlisted numbers

    Provest LLC sounds VERY fishy
A person called saying their name was Gladys and was trying to reach a possible relative of mine, Clara %^&** (not giving name for safety reasons).  She left a phone number (888) 519-0028 x 3639.   I checked the caller ID and it was listed as call coming at 12:59 pm on 4/15 from 972-496-8700 Provest LLC.

When I went online to check what company and phone number this was I found this site… http://www.provest.us/contact.asp.  It appears the call came from Garland, TX.

The funny thing is that I don't have a relative by this name yet I thought the name sounded familiar. I then realized the name was probably my brother in law's mother who lives in a completely different state than I.    I am sorry but this all sounds fishy to me!

My in laws received a call from this number from someone trying to get info on my husband. After seeing the postings on this page and going to Provest's website we called ASC to see if these people were legit. America's Servicing Company advised us that they had no idea who these people were and that they were not now or at any time working for or with ASC and should be considered and treated as Fraudulant!

My mother in-law keeps getting the same call from these folks.  And guess what??  My mortgage is with America's Servicing Company.  Imagine that.  I know that ASC is denying that they work for them, but with all the information on line pointing to them I would say that they are lying.

ZVulcan, you are right. ASC is one of their largest clients. Of course they don't want you knowing they hired a third party agency to get a hold of you. They are always looking for people who owe them money, haven't paid their mortgage, etc.

They are a process company. So they serve you legal documents--lawyers, corporations hire them to SERVE you papers that say YOU HAVE BEEN SUED...so that they can get on with their litigation, which is to usually foreclose on you.

The other night a neighbor i don't even know knocked on my door saying someone called him asking about and a reference or something, I thought the neighbor was trying to be on some fishy stuff. Well the next day my father calls me saying someone called him, they left a message i could understand the message to clear but they left this number, all my bills and specially my mortgage is always paid on time, so I really find this STRANGE.  Honestly I might will go to the authorities with this to figure out if something illegal is going on here.
