most likely an Indian scam call center posing as a legit business, threatening to shut off services if payment not presented.

Scam Calling from a (800)280-6001 claiming that we did not pay our Con Edison Bill & to call (888)549-1556 and that they will shut off our services in the next hour.

Claiming to be Consumers Energy in our area threatening to shut us off, if we don't pay security deposit for upgraded meter since we use to much power lol... When they gave me this number to call, I started laughing, told him Consumers NEVER answers the phone that fast, been dealing with them for over 30 years, so he put me on hold for 5 min and hung up on me.

called and they kept asking for my account #. I said you should have it in front of you... you called me.  They gave me the  "you haven't responded to the need for a NEW electric meter" (which coincidentally we had done 6 months ago - it is a law around here every 10 years)
