called from 610-691-0486 and said his name was Peter Lobal, calling from PPL.  He had my account #, and was asking for me to renew my contract or if I wanted to change anything.  I didn't trust this so I said I needed to investigate further, and he gave me a call back # of 888-656-4330.  Tried calling PPL but on hold for now.  Will try again to see if they say this is a valid call.

Utilities don't have a "contract"  If you are in their service area then you get your power from them since they are a monopoly.

That is only true for delivery and some cases of a local government owned generation facility. The majority of locales now allow you to shop around for a supplier who may or may not be the same as the delivery company. If you have never selected a supply company then you would not have a contract, otherwise you do have one.

I understand that.  However, I went on line and could find nothing that said that they were anything other than a Utility Company.

Received a call from Peter Noble(?) from Power Choice at this number on 14Jan21.  Also said he was calling for PPL and offered me a low rate for a power supplier called Pure Energy.  He said my contract was expiring.  It is, in 2022! He was presenting a lowest monthly rate variable plan, changing suppliers to whomever was lowest.  The background noise sounded like a call center. Went on the PAPowerSwitch website and Pure Energy is on the Supplier list, but not offering anything in my zip code.  This guy is a Power broker.  I have successfully used one like it for a two year contact for my business.  How did he have my account number?  PPL has its comparison rates on each bill and contacts me by mail.  This broker does not sound legitimate. Did not find a Power Choice website except for doing business in Australia.   Am contacting PPL to see if they are interested in knowing about this.

Even the Utility Company if they offer supply as well as delivery will often have a contract for the supply.  My local utility does that although I have chosen a different supplier.

I have never had a contract with the utility for anything including the supply.  Only when I go to a different supplier.  I wasn't saving enough to put up with the hassle of changing suppliers every year so I went back to simply using the utility.  They did not send me a separate contract, they simply put it on the monthly bill.
