They keep calling saying they have a personal message for someone who doesn't even live here and never has

The harassment began months ago, non-stop, 3-5 times/week. Pissed this week, called back, demanded supervisor, got another person who hung up on me within 5 seconds. They don't announce the type of biz they have, which usually is bunco/junk crap. Today it was at 12.27 PM. I don't know these creeps, did no business w/them. I've gotten onto Cell Do Not Call list. Big deal? Make it stop already.

These guys have been calling me for weeks.  I never answer 800 calls because it's usually Sprint trying to sell me a different phone or whatever, and I thought this was the same thing.  Finally one of the calls left an automated message from CBA for Michael Brown to call their number and give some reference number.  My roommate is Jeffery Michael Brown but we don't know how they got my number associated with his middle name.  He called back and angrily asked why they've been calling at all hours (not actually a big deal since I leave the phone on vibrate) and the operator said "Have a nice day" and hung up!  Very weird.  I guess they get tired of angry callers or something.  He called back and told the next operator he'd just called and been hung up on, and again asked why we were getting calls.  The operator asked for the reference number and asked if Michael Brown was at this number, and he said no.  That was the end of the call.  I'll post again if they call back.

I keep receiving calls for someone I knew in 2003. She drove me places after I had an operation and could not drive myself (for several months). I let her keep my old car at her house and gave her my cell phone to use in case the car broke down. I have had no coorespondence with her since that time.

I am tired of your agency calling me on my cell phone using up my minutes and will report your agency if this continues. The phone numbers calling are all 888-656- but the next four numbers vary. Two of them have been 9285 and 9294. After a couple of years of these calls, I am entirely fed up!

Hey, these guys are something else!  We had ATT Uverse.  When our house was involved in a fire, of course we did not have it anymore.  You have to send back 2 pieces of equipment UPS.  So we did. And as usual I kept every receipt.  Well, that was April 9, 2000.  In June of 2000 we got a letter from CBA saying we had not returned our equipment and that they were collecting for ATT Uverse, send 65.75.  They were even adding late fees!
Well, in the moving into a new house and all, the letter got misplaced and forgotten and we had returned the equipment anyway.  SO my husband gets a call at work, he does not answer them.  I got the number from him and called.  The woman I talked to did not know who I was and told me who he owned, how much, for what blah blah blah.  All illegal of course because I could have been his mother, sister or even his mistress!  I cut her off before she got started on the nasties.  I love harassing a harasser.  I said, hey lady, we sent it back, we have a receipt, I will fax it to you now, what is your fax number, never letting her get a word in which ticked her off.  Finally I got the fax number and then I asked her name. She did not want to give it to me. I said I want your name so I can send this to your attention. She finally gave me a name of Denise.  SO, I got the receipts, wrote up a cover sheet and faxed it within 10 minutes.  Never heard from them again.  We finally did find the letter, from Shawn Moon's Collection Bureau of America.  Shawn Moon? Is that not a false name or what!  Anyway, my husband was talking to ATT about service to our new home and he mentioned them sending us to collection.  The woman at ATT was in shock.  She said WE DON"T USE COLLECTION AGENCIES!  Also we charge $125 for each piece of equipment not returned and we have an in house department which handles that. Anyway, you sent it back so we would not have had a problem.  HAHAHA  THEY ARE FRAUDS!  They just looked at our credit report, like most of them do, and find something they think they can use and then harass you into paying.  Where they got $65.75 I don't know.  But I am sure a lot of people get the letter and just pay it and that people like me are few who know how to deal with these creeps.  So, if they say you owe something, you probably don't.  Chalk this one up to almost as good as Worldwide Recoveries!  AND SHE EVEN HAD THE NERVE TO SAY WE WILL PUT THIS ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT!  What a joke.  If it was not so sad.

925-204-3846 called and left a message, unlike the first time they called. Like the second time they called, this time the recording said to call Collection Bureau of America at 888-656-9285. The recording said it is an attempt to collect a debt this time. There was no mention of who the message was for.

The second time they gave a different number, (888) 656-9287, to call and perhaps were pursuing a scam such as Princess Pi mentioned in this thread about 888-656-9285 on 26 Jul 2009. My second call from them went like this: The recorded female voice said she was a debt collector with Collection Bureau of America and this was an attempt to collect a debt. She asked me to call (888) 656-9287. I looked up (888) 656-9287 and found no information. There was also a confusing and incomplete recorded message with a male voice after hers. I looked up Collection Bureau of America. They are based in Hayward, California, which is in the Bay Area with the 925 area code, but not in the 925 area code. Google says their number is (510) 781-5178, which has the area code for Haward. Their website is http://www.collectionbureauofamerica.com/. Their website says their number is 888-306-2045 and that their pay-by-phone number is 888-454-0313 and their fax number is 510-781-5101, which is close to the number Google gives for them. However, neither the number in the caller ID nor the number in the voice mail matches any of Collection Bureau of America's numbers. Collection Bureau of America looks like an established business, but this call does not look much like it is from them. This could be a scam.
