Number called from was 2694923328 and has been flagged by white pages as fraud/scam. She left her name, Dianne and wanted to confirm she had the correct number for me and left this number (888-662-1610) for me to call her back on. If the number called from has been flagged by whitepages I am not going to call back, especially when the message left does not really state why they are calling. Sounds fishy to me.

same thing here get this call every once in a while.  They will leave their name and want to verify my phone number belongs to me.  no company no nothing.  i have blocked the number.  Any debt agency will usually leave a name number and where they are calling from.  Well that has been my experience in the past and i checked my credit and there is nothing outstanding at this time.

What name are they leaving?  Also, the law says the following:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Called and said “This is Christine calling to verify this phone number belongs to ****. My number is *****” she never said a company, never said what the call was in regards to and the number she called on was different than the number she gave me to call back, which was an 888 number. Nope.
