- Anonymous| 1 replyWe should flash call these scammers. Call 888-677-0293 and request ext. 108 for Jean Upright. Called my business' number, said he was from Chase and was looking for my husband. Stated that a $5000 check was written from his Chase account and they were trying to verify if it was authorized prior to it clearing. We don't have a Chase account. I wouldn't give him any information and he became belligerent, gaslighting me by accusing me of doing something illegal and fraudulent. The more I refused to give him any information or speak with my husband, the more belligerent and threatening he got. I've think this is actually a debt collector using illegal practices to locate my husband in an attempt to collect a debt that is beyond the statute of limitations.

- Anonymous| 3 repliesUpdate to my previous post. Jean Upright called my husband's phone and left the same callback 888-677-0293 ext. 108 and stated he was from an attorney office calling regarding an order that was about to be issued in court and that they needed my husband's side of the story. He left a very threatening and ominous voicemail. So ol' Jean had a different scam line this time, instead of the one earlier that he was from Chase as he said when he called my number. Again, I think this is an unscrupulous debt collector trying to locate a person to try and collect on an old debt that is past the statute of limitations.

You keep bringing that up. Trying to collect on a debt past SOL is completely legal in 48 states. Filing a lawsuit or threatening to file a lawsuit past that date is illegal in all 50 states. This sounds like the "hot check" scam. If there were actually a court case then they would not need your husband's side of the story. The court would need it. He would have had to have been properly served as well. If he did not answer the complaint then they would get a default judgement.Quote:try and collect on an old debt that is past the statute of limitations. - Anonymous replies to BigAThe same man called twice, two different phone numbers, and gave 2 different identities and stories, but the same callback number and extension and that phone number is associated with Northstar Location Services, a debt collector. Yes they can try to collect a debt that is past the statute of limitations, but it is unlawful for them to claim to be someone they are not (including that they are from Chase bank) or other false claims in order to get the person on the phone, to threaten jail or court action and they must disclose the debt is beyond the statute of limitations. This person is using deceptive, unlawful practices. My husband does not have any debts that are not beyond the statute of limitations. There are no court cases against him. He does not have any Chase accounts. They must comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act https://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/rules/rulemak ... ctices-act-text

- Claudia ColonContacted the number and a Mr Jenkins responded. Stated he was from Davis & McKenzie & Associates in Atlanta. Googled the name of the law firm and nothing came up. Asked him for the firms website and he could not give it to me. Stated his firm was representing Citibank. And that there was a judgement pending. I don’t have an account with Citibank. Told him to lose my number.
