Recd a call stating they wanted my address to serve me with court papers because a claim was filed under my name. Um REALLY?????? COURT PAPERS ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE MY ADDRESS. An obvious DEBT CRDITOR THAT IS NOT PRACTICING THE CA LAW.

This number is United. They ARE a debt collector. They just say they have court papers to scare you. It's their way of getting you to call back. They buy accounts from people that you owe money too. It is legit!

In response, creditors are NOT allowed to use scare tactics to get you to pay or contact information so even if they are legit, which I seriously doubt, they are still violating the fair collection laws! They cannot say they have a warrant for your arrest or court papers against you when in fact, they do not. FYI they have also called my husband and I gave them an earful about collection laws and their violations and guess what? They have not called back.

these people have also called my work asked for my manager. I say if your have court papers for me then come to my house.

not legit in our case.  bahama marketing group called, saying we have a loan from january.  no loan.  i looked around at getting a payday loan in january, but never filled out an application.

someone at a local # just called my work and spoke to a co-worker, gave them all of my personal information and then told them to have me call this 888-682-5572 #.  I cannot believe that they told someone all of my information.  I am so sick and tired of all of these scammers, they all need to go back to their foreign freaking countries, they will get an earful when I get home tonight, I am sick of this crap

this company called me at home saying they want to serve me court papers , i told them if this is a debt , send me a bill , its for a payday loan , they told me its in litagation , i told her then i guess i will see them in court , i get this number calling my house 5 times a day

Got 2 messages on my work phone.  Claimed his name was Jared McCain.  Left and claim number and 2 different call back numbers each time.  First one was (888) 982-5572 and the other was (866) 922-4118.  When i called back a couple days later a women picked up and said she worked with United.  Claimed they were a mediation service trying to collect a debt for a payday loan i took in 2010.  Asked to verify my name and address.  When i asked her where her physical address was at she just said Orange County, California.  She said their company, due to their nature of their business, has the right not to give out their address.  I told her that is very hard to believe because that's public information, even the CIA has a physical address you can look up. After i said that she got very hostile and started claiming that i was trying to cooperate in paying off my debt.  I explained to her that all i wanted to do was check my bank records to verify that what she was saying was correct.  She just got more angry and said she would transfer me to her case manager or something.  I told her no i will just call back then she really got mad and said a "locator" has been dispatched to serve me my papers and that I would have to go to court.  I'm no legal expert but based on my experience "United" sounds like a scam to me.

Same exact story with me and to top it off they would not provide me with any info regarding original loan supposedly taken out

I received a call from this number a few months ago and then another one this week. I was working, my phone was on silent, and I was unaware of the call until later. My phone showed a call from a blocked number, a missed call from 888-682-5572, and a voice mail. The voice mail said that I had a judgment against me and gave me a number to call. When I called that number a few months ago, they asked me about the last four digits of my social and gave me an address that was not mine. I knew they were wanting me to correct their information, therefore giving them what they could use. I did not fall for it, and I certainly did not call it again this time.

This really angers me. I owe no one that would have a judgment against me, and I do not appreciate being threatened and told, "__(my name)_____________, you have been notified." These people should be prosecuted!

Debt collector? Not possible - I don't know what type of call to use on the dropdown menu.
