- DanTe| 1 replyThis is your NY Nassau County Emergency Hotline. Yes, your tax dollars fund this Hotline so that the stupid politicians can spam you with "emergency" alerts of their greatness to you.
- Caller: Nassau County
- Call type: Political call
- Mom g| 1 replyCall came in as "unknown"...picked up, gave Bronx cheer and hung up....
- Caller: Unknown
- Joseph Kelberman| 1 replyPicked up and hung up. Didn't go further.
- irish replies to Mom gyou need to listen to these calls, I dont know why they do not put Town of Hempstead or another name but important calls.
- resident replies to Joseph KelbermanSee reply messages, these are calls you do want to hear.
- pjcwimpI agree. If the call is coming from Nassau County or the Town of Hempstead then why is it "unavailable?" I will not answer any calls that are unavailable or unknown. I always hang up or let it go to the message provided I am not being annoyed by the ringing. So an IMPORTANT CALL should be readily idenifiable and not register like a telemarketer. Wake up Town Officials.
- Irish GalI agree with pjcwimp and irish these are calls we need to listen to but they should follow the Law and put "Town of Hempstead" or what ever official office the call is originating from instead of anonomous. They would actually spread thier message if they did identify themselves as most people do not answer anonomous calls. They do however leave a message most of the time.
- Caller: Town of Hempstead, weather alerts or event info
- Call type: Event reminder
- Irish replies to DanTeI know the calls are annoying at times, but I personally rather have my tax dollars actually working to give me information even if they are severe weather alerts because they do help.
- BillThese [***] are using the emergency services notification for pre-election political ads.
I have a telephone spam blocker which has really cut down on telephone spam in general, but I am loathe to put in this number to be blocked because it is an emergency number, and is for disaster notification (Sandy), escaped convict notification, Amber Alert/missing person notification (i.e. true emergencies).
If I got a call to tell me that a relatively minor storm is approaching, I would be slightly annoyed, but I would figure that the county's attitude is better safe than sorry. There is no excuse, however, for the county to be sending political ads over this number, or using it for non-emergency purposes. Today's call was Ed Mangano (County Executive) inviting me to a free job fair at the Nassau County Coliseum. Hmmm, methinks there is an election on the horizon!- Caller: Nassau County
- Call type: Political call
