This # keeps calling my phone. They are not leaving messages but call about every two hours. Who are they?????

This numer is NOT a phone number for WAMU Fraud!!!!!   This number is an automated system that represents itself as WAMU when in fact Washington Mutual does not have any 888 numbers listed!  The voice mail message you receive says "this is Washington Mutual Fraud Department, calling... we have reason to believe you have unauthorized transactions on your account, please call this number... 888-688-9761".  When you call back, it is automated system identical to Washington Mutuals automated service.  It requests the last 4 digits of your Debit Card, it verifies your first name, it verifies the number you are calling from and from there it requests your birthday... at this point I HUNG UP but it was too late.  Don't fall for this!!  I am now a victim of identity theft.

It was in fact WAMUs fraud department.  After reading the 8/1/07 post, I hung up on the first call, and called my WAMU 800 number directly.  They verified that the original call was in fact valid and that some one had used my Debit card fraudulently.

I got a call too from this number and actually went through the motions too, I pressed to verify my name, then birth, then last four digit of SS.  What should I do to protect myself at this point?  Anyone know who to call to report his abuse.  They have been calling me like 4 times a day.  How do they know that I had a suspicious activity on my account anyways?

i received about a dozen calls from these people after making a purchase from skype.  after i confirmed the information they were looking for, i called washington mutual, who had no notes of me being called by anyone.  i then called back the 888.688.9761 and got on to someone named paul.  he said he worked for 'first data', but would not pass me to his supervisor to confirm their legitimacy, and eventually hung up on me.  after this, i called wamu back and cancelled my atm card number.  i then called back and got a supervisor.  strangely, she had all my account information even though i had not identified myself in anyway.  

the supervisor then offered to do a 3-way call with washington mutual to their 788.7000 number.   after waiting 5 minutes, in conference w/ wamu business dept, i confirmed that even though the operators stumble through there words and act shady, this was a VALID FRAUD PREVENTION CALL.  

save the 1st data supervisor i spoke to, all parties from wamu and 1st data were generally clueless and not helpful.  whatever this system is set-up to do, seemingly it could be handled in a much more professional way that doesn't WASTE people's time needlessly.

same thing happen to me...is there anyway out of this ?

Look up number 888-671-8468.  Most calls come from that number.
