- KatAbsolutely a scam! I no longer have student loans. I got an email telling me to call this number, and they had my first and last name as well as my street address. It also included a link for "unsubscribing" which could expose you to malware or viruses.
The email never gave a business name, and the email address was lacey15rosenbaumbvk@hotmail.com. That's not a legitimate business email. Scammers love using hotmail addresses. The email was in plain text with no logos or formatting, oddly worded, and mentioned no business name. It had a link for unsubscribing, again, with no formatting or hotlink. They say you only have one day to contact them--a typical scammer ploy trying to create a sense of urgency and fear.
Here's the full text of my email exactly as I received it:
[my full name], Hello this is Lacey Rosenbaum on behalf of the Student-Loan Debt Department. We tried to contact you at your home [my correct address minus the apartment number] and did not hear back. Your StudentLoans have been marked as eligible for forgiveness under the new 2024 guidelines. Your case number is #48697, and your file will remain open in my system for only one more day. If you could please give your dedicated eligibility line a call at: (888)‑696‑4002, Our office hours are 11am-8pm (EST) Monday-Friday. Thank you so much and we hope to hear from you soon, Lacey Rosenbaum
