Scam! Real process servers don't call in advance.

I called, gave the case number and he kept me on hold, then came back and said he’d spoken to the attorney, and  a notice was mailed to my current address, (which he had correct as well as my SS number) in May and I hadn’t responded, (I never received anything) it’s a debt that goes back to a car repo I had 14 years ago and I could settle it for $5000, when I asked the name of the law firm he put me on hold and came back with Western Law Group… I asked the address he said I’ll just note this as a refusal to pay,… I said if you were being asked to pay that amount of money you’d ask for information right?… said we’re in California, again I asked for the physical address, on hold again then he came back with 1801 Century Park East LA, I asked in which court it was going to be heard and again said I’ll just note it as a refusal to pay, I said I need information I never said I’m refusing to pay, to which he replied, it’s a civil matter so it’s in the Johnston County Civil Court, I asked for the index # he said why don’t you just wait for the paperwork you’ll get all your questions answered on page 3 ok and I said ok I will. Then he hung up. He spoke very quickly and was quite blunt. I asked him to slow it down and repeat himself twice, but he continued to speak that way. He had information such as address and Social if it’s a scam I wonder how he’d have that?

Dodging your questions - a SURE sign of a SCAM as is the "refusal to pay" comments.  .  A quick call to the Johnson County courthouse (civil division) will verify a scam.  A claim from 14 years ago is out of the statute of limitations.
