This is a collection agency. They use very smart tactics to get you to call them back. In my case I actully dont own them any money. What they did was call my cell phone and say " John Smith ( name held for privacy )has listed you as a reference, please call us back at 1-888-710-6819. Now the name that they used as a refrence was an old freind of mine, and how they got that is beyond me. ( Background check I guess ) So I did a little research on these [***].

They use to phone numbers that I know of:
                                            A: 1-888-710-6819
                                            B: 1-877-209-5713

If you call them they may say they are from GRC. If your lucky, and at first thats all they will tell you.
Well Their company is called General Revenue Corporation. Here is their complete address

    General Revenue Corporation
    11501 Northlake Dr.
    Cincinnati, Ohio 45249-1643

    The Company website is:

    http://www.generalrevenue.com/

If I find anything more on these pieces of crap, ill be sure to come back and visit this page. Good Luck and dont let them stress you out! ( If you owe debt :)

I just got the same message that others have described from 888-710-6819.  I, too, have no debt issues.  The interesting thing in this case is that they used the name of a fellow I used to work with as "someone who used you as a reference."  Unfortunately, what they probably don't realize is that Eric died at the age of 40 of a congenital aortic aneurysm about 18 months ago.  I was looking forward to having some fun with their representative "Kevin Cobb," but when I called back, "all customer reps are busy, leave a message in the GRC voice mailbox."  Perhaps this is due to the heavy calling volume of all the others trying to connect with their dead friends or relatives, or maybe this is a way to harvest more names and numbers.

I recommend that anyone who is annoyed by such nonsense visit this web site: https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do

You get to fill out an incident report about unsolicited junk calls.  If the FCC gets enough complaints about GRC, maybe they will go after GRC under the FTC do-not-call rules and turn their unpaid fines over to a collection agency.  Do it for Eric, he would have appreciated the irony.

Yes, it is a bill collector. They somehow got our cell phone numbers and now call as unknown. They left this number as a call back to discuss "student loans". I have never dealt with people. If I had a student loan I was paying on, I would list it as a tax credit on my 1040 federal tax form! These people are like the other ones being reported on the news-credit scams and collections! deal only with your original debt originator, don't give any info to them, always say this is not their number! They will use up cell phone minutes if you pay that way. I have a landline and email that my debts contact me, not my cell!

Can't tell you how much of a help this was. A friend (really) is receiving calls at work. I researched the number and came up with your posting. I called the number (888-710-6819) and found out it's GRC in Indianapolis, IN and the biggest regional GRC office is in Cincinnati, OH. There number is 877-320-7474. I told GRC they should stop calling my friend at work as discussing any debt issues there is ILLEGAL! Further, I promised to file a formal complaint with our State Attorney General office should the calls continue. Thanks again.

sometimes people have paid there bills and these people leave the collection agency in the dark.  They will call you saying that a person gave your name as a reference for a job and then they will try to get where the person lives and their phone number...any reference checker will not ask that information since they should all ready have it is they have a persons resume.  Doing that and bugging someone is illegal at least in California.  With the economy the way it is these people should be closed down.

You miss the point Frank.  They're saying these folks are NOT legitimate collectors.  They're calling people who don't owe money.  There are scams out there trying to pry information out of them for who knows what reason.  If they're truly just collecting a debt, why do they need you to give them your personal information?  I'm with Joan on this one.  Deal directly with the person you owe the debt to to pay your bills, not go through some scam company like this.

you people are ridiculous. they have all of your information for a reason. you owe a debt. if you didnt owe the debt you wouldnt be on here complaining about it, you would be seeking help for fraud. by telling them its the wrong number you're just making excuses to not take care of something you signed up for. but the beauty of putting it off is, collection costs. you will gain so much interest from being an idiot that you wont be able to pay your once reasonable loan off. then once you dont pay, you can either have your taxes taken, your ss, or your wages. not to mention if you have ANY professional license, that will be taken too. its a federal backed loan, the goverment will get their money however they want. you also wont be able to recieve anymore assistance from the goverment from school until you take care of it, and forget your credit. a defaulted student loan puts an I9 on your credit report which is equal to a bankruptsy. so think about what youre doing when you put your loans off. look this company up all you want, but grow up and take care of your business.

they should stop harassing people in regards to someone else's "personal business" (as the lady said when i called to ask where in no-mans they are calling from). im pretty sure it was in regards to my aunt's debt because i KNOW i am not in debt. for christ sake, my aunt passed away 2 months ago. what more do these people want from a dead person? what, are they going to go a-knockin' on her coffin if i gave them the address?! how ridiculous!!

    fed up with self-righteous people
    To "someone that knows"

While I commend your knowledge (taking it at face value to be true, mind you), I'll have to say I find your tone condescending and rude. I wish that I was able to meet all of my financial obligations so easily and look at myself in the same state of perfection that you obviously you see yourself in... kudos to you! Everyone should be so fortunate. Perhaps you should share this good fortune on an even broader scale and consider giving seminars, but I would suggest softening your presentation style. :-)

This # calls me daily on my home & cell phone. Sometimes up to 3x a day.
Its a company called EdFund aka General Revenue Service.
Earlier this year my student loans fell into collections and they contacted me and they wont leave me alone even thought I'm working with another company to get my loans back on track.
The call starts with "if you are (insert name here), press 1, if not, press 2". Even if you press 2 they still call you continously.

I think you'll find you're wrong about the cost here. Sure, the interest will raise the debt up, often by several thousand dollars, but the companies will settle with people for much less than the actual debt. After all, some money is better than no money. A 1k dollar debt can easily be settled for between 3 and 4 hundred.

Even if your original debt was around 5k and the interest took up your loan to 10k, you could easily get a plan to pay off 3k total.
