This number called and said they were calling to deliver a summons, the name they provided was an old maiden name that I have not used in over 10 years and they did not give any court information that seemed legitimate only this number was left as a number that I must call back. It was a very harrasing message and the number calling came up as restricted

A REAL process server will NOT warn you that they are coming. Think scare tactic.  Do you have a company name or any other information?

They say they are not a debt collector but a law group. I call bull crap. They are the worst offender of the fair debt collection practices act and they like to use scare tactics and intimidation. They also like to try to collect on the debt that is out of statute of limitations. I know they've called me twice  already in the last five days. Telling me that my property is going to be seized. I don't know owned property. Telling me that I have a court date. I called the courthouse there is no suit filed. They lie and try to scare people and intimidate them and threaten them and they like to violate the laws left and right. I told him the next time  I was going to sue them for violation of the FDCPA

Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.

Yet another illiterate shill.  Why is that none of you are able to properly compose a sentence?  Is it because you have been left back so many times, that you were eventually kicked out of junior high school?

Except REAL process servers don't call in advance because - guess what - you could hide from them! I'd say nice try, shill, but it wasn't. Everyone here knows the truth.

It's very easy to get your information nowadays - data breaches, online forms for loans, shady businesses that sell your information.  You can always call one of the three credit bureaus and have them place fraud alerts and/or credit freezes on your file.

Catherine Boddegah (not sure if spelled correctly)  has been calling me several times a day for 3days now. She says she's from Process Services Dispatch Department and she is serving a court ordered summons. On the message she left at 648p on 9/13 she says this is me being served. I've called the number back several times--710p; 815p; 900p; 945p; the next morning at 845a. same person answers everytime & he is very rude and unprofessional for a so called lawyers office. The only info i was able to get out of them is: Sherman Associates- address is 1610 W Commonwealth and they guy that answers is named Jim. When i asked what state they are in his reply was "what the hells that matter i just gave you the address" I then stated well you guys keep calling me so i want to know where youre calling me from. He gave no reply so i hung up. Another time i called he told me there was no way i received calls from that number because they do not make outbound calls unless im an attorney-again i hung up. When i called this am at 845 it rang for 1min 45sec before anyone answered. When they answered they said "Legal Services" i then asked for the woman who left me the message the night before at 7p a miss Catherine Boddegah he then proceeded to tell me noone by that name works there i said he was a liar because she left me a message 13hrs ago. Again very rudely he said Noone by that name works here, whats your case number. I then told him since they are liars not to ever call my number again and that i have contacted the police and i hung up. When i was doing research last night about this phone number, Company name they gave & the address they gave i found that address in 5 different states--none of which i am located in. I have also looked up the supposed case number they gave me- i looked it up in all 5 states plus the one I live in and NOTHING ever comes up.

} not a debt collector but a law group

That line doesn't work on the CFPB or FTC, either. The FDCPA has covered debt collection lawyers for decades. If you have a confirmed location, don't wait to sue. You have plenty for a winning case already.

Got a call on my cell today asking for my husband. Same story they had 'court papers to serve him' and gave me a case #. Said that even I could call the 888 number she gave me to 'find out information' on the case. It smelled Ph-ishy when she provided me with an address we haven't lived at for 3 years and asked me to verify this was the current address. I told her that I wasn't going to provide her with our private information since I didn't have any way to know she was who she said she was. She then told me not to 'get snippy' with her. Ha! Hate these things!
