Demanding immediate payment is a major red flag of a SCAM!

Kathy Shiffano is the lady who keeps calling me about an old debt from a loan company in Texas that enlisted their services for debt collection. Revenue Reporting is the company's name...not 100% certain of the validity of this, since she did have the exact amount, location, and date that I took out the loan. I did not pay that loan, so it is a valid debt that I owe, just not completely confident that this is a legit company in which to pay to satisfy that debt.

Well "ympettit", it's very simple to determine if "Kathy Shiffano" is legitimate. You've stated she keeps calling & she has correct information. I take that to mean that you've spoken with her. Have you received the required notice of validation, by mail, from her outfit? They were required, under the FDCPA, to have MAILED you a notice of validation within 5 business days after first contact with you. If you have not received that notice, "Kathy" and her outfit are in violation of the FDCPA. Pay them nothing.
If you take another call from "Kathy", DEMAND that notice to be MAILED (NOT fax. or e-mail) to you. If she refuses or makes any types of excuses, case closed. She's a SCAMMER!

Relatives of mine have been contacted by this company.  They claimed a pay day lone debt that I may have taken 5 years ago and never paid.  I figured it could be legit since there were 2 at the the time frame given that I never paid back.  But when I requested documentation of the money owed and that it was in my rights to have documentation l, Mrs Quinn got pretty hostile that i had 5 years to check paperwork.  I am willing to bet this is a scam.  If not and I receive documents with everything checking out, I will pay the money.

There are going to be plenty of "ifs" involved before you're going to be paying this outfit any money. Let's get started, shall we?
"If" they supply you with any paperwork. They won't. They're in WNY. Collecting on PDLs is illegal in NY & they don't have legal title to the debt in the first place. They're not going to be putting anything in writing & they're certainly not going to be putting any demands in the mail.
"If" they have adhered to the FDCPA. Did you receive the required notice of validation within 5 business days after your first contact with them? Of course not! Fraudulent/Bogus debt collection outfits trying to illegally collect PDLS don't abide by federal regulations. It puts a dent in their unlawful profits.
"If" the debt is valid. Have you checked to see if the debt is time barred? The Statute of Limitations on debts varies by state. In my state of residence the SOL on something like a PDL is three years. Check the SOLs in yours. Are PDLs even legal in your state? Check that as well.
The bottom line here is that everyone should pay their debts. Just be sure you're paying your legitimate debts to a legitimate debt collector. In the cases of debt collectors from WNY, assume they're all crooked. The sad fact is...most of them are.

These people have called my job three times.  I work as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher and they are calling the phone inside of my classroom.  I told them this during the first two calls that they made to me.  They were very threatening on the phone and said that I was refusing to pay my bills. Then today a Mrs. Saluzzo called me in my classroom AGAIN.  I told her I am teaching children and she said "Why are you answering the phone then if you are in the classroom?"  I explained that the phone is for the nurses office, deans office, principals office, attendance office, cafeteria, etc to call my room in case a student is needed and I cannot leave my students unattended or without instruction to answer her calls.  I explained they were impeding my instruction and interrupting a school day with this nonsense.  I again asked her today to mail me the information to my home and she said "You should know how this works you have had several judgements against you already"  For the record I have ZERO judgements against me and each time they have called I have asked who the debt is owed to.  She then said "Do you conduct every conversation in front of your students the way you are conducting this one?"  I am furious!  What can I do?

Kathy Shiffano is the same name that left me a message.  Let me tell you that even though these scammers have all the "right" information, does not make them legitmate.  My philosophy is to put it in writing on letterhead and then I will call.  Not based on some vague voice mail.  Yeah, she gives a name and business name but no real information to make me feel comfortable that it's for real.
