- BC replies to IsaacWhiteDefinitely a scam. I just got the same message when I tried to watch a Facebook video. Probably the 50th time I've gotten such a warning. Usually from a "Microsoft support technical center", and I've called the number several times for fun. Almost always a Middle Eastern person who claims he/she doesn't know anything about the warning but is willing to "help me" fix my computer. Always wants me to give control of my computer to them. Which I never do. I've tried talking with them long enough to understand how their scam works, but when I won't give them control of my computer, they refuse to tell me more. Only once did they tell me about cost to fix my computer. The guy said I should take my computer to Best Buy but warned me the Geek Squad would charge me several hundred dollars. Then he offered to fix my computer for only $199, about half of Best Buy's charge. I declined.
- KevMy mom almost got scammed by these guys and I was so pissed. So I called the number to give them a piece of my mind. They are for sure a scam. The guy spoke with an Indian accent. I told him my "problem" and I asked where he was based out of and he gave me this address: Vinewood Ct. Plain City, Columbus Ohio 43064. If you look it up online, that area is a suburban residential area. Not a commercial one. He claims he is a certified Microsoft representative and works for Microsoft. What he wanted me to do was open my "run" program on my computer and enter his website which I will not display here (to protect others). He says it will download a program which will provide a "free" diagnostic of the problem on my computer. He kept stressing the fact that it was free. I asked him who the program that I would download is made by, Microsoft or a third party. He said Microsoft but how can it be by Microsoft when his website is so clearly a scam site (www.xxxxxxx123.net). I suspect he was trying to take over her computer remotely or use a virus to obtain sensitive information.
Please everyone if you receive this message, don't call the number and please do not download anything from any number that begins with 888. If you're on Google Chrome and you receive a popup like this (http://i.imgur.com/zaa8Rxy.png), all you have to do is click prevent page from creating additional dialogs. Please stay away from these scammers.- Caller: 888-739-3804
- KevApparently he changes his story every time. I was just told that he said that he was based out of new york, when he clearly just told me he's based out of Ohio. Disgusting. Again, whatever you do, do not download anything from this number. If anything download adblocker https://adblockplus.org/ which kills any advertisement on any website. It is an extension for Google Chrome browser, so if you have Google Chrome, it may benefit you.
- IsaacWhite replies to IsaacWhitealso microsoft requires for the people that got these pop-ups, for them to contact some federal department of some sort, just go to microsoft support.
