    Tired of the BS
    They have called my cell phone looking for a "Chris Morales".  They call every week different numbers, different times of the day.

    One time I said, "Sure this is Chris please stop calling me. They said they filed a lawsuit and wanted to serve me. I told them I don't know what they're talking about. Then I asked them what address they were trying to deliver it to. It was an address in Oklahoma. I don't live in Oklahoma and I told them that.

    When they insisted again I asked the to remove my number from their automated system. They would not. They called again and again and said they would keep calling me until I paid them the money Chris Morales owed them.

    In my state its a felony to claim you have filed a lawsuit and are trying to serve it. So, seeins how in my state its perfectly legal to record incoming calls especially when the other side says the call's being recorded, I just recorded the call and sent it to the cops with a complaint asking them to put these mutherfeckers in jail for being a criminal nuisance and extortionists.

    Things people should know about debt: 1. All debt is bought. That debt includes NEW/OLD. Some of it is past the statue of limitations, other isn't.
    2. The amount OWED will go against your credit report.
    If you owe someone money, they are allowed to call you and bug you as much as they want. Within your states laws.
    Most debt collecters, are from out of state.. So these laws dont really apply. Most information is given, or simply looked up on the internet. If you recieved a call from them and do not handle it in the correct manner your screwed for however long they have the debt for! If the debt is not collected on it is sold to the next person, and then they call you.. If its a small amount ( under 1K ) just pay it, its better then them calling you all the time. However, if this debt collecter wanted to take you to court, they easily could.. Small claims is up to $10,000. And it literally would cost them nothing but time. Most companies are to lazy because the type of people who owe DEBT are trashy, flakey, usually been in and out of jail, and cant afford to pay it anyways. Therefore they talk to you like [***]. They are trained to talk to you like a child and tell you what to do. Most the time they have your social, dob. Phone numbers and address, plus where you work. 9/10 times this is provided by the company you originally owed the debt too.

    This is the third time I've received a message from these people on my cell phone (I've had this # for 15 years), 888-772-9119 looking for Mr. Rodriguez.  I called them back and politely told them to remove my number, that I did not know this person.  They wanted my name and I refused to give it to them.  They then got very ugly.  They told me it was common courtesy to give your name and that most people would if they are not running from something.  I told him you do not need my name, I don't a person by the name of Rodriguez and take my number off,  Do not call me again.  He then screamed and said that he did not believe me!  I hung up and called the Federal Trade commission to report this.

    Okay my father received a call from this number today asking if I was his daughter to which he replied yes and they told him that they had been trying to get in touch with me over a serious matter to which they gave the case number but wouldn't leave their name or why they were calling. When I called the number for myself at 6:00 pm my time the phone was answered ( you could tell it was on a crappy speakerphone) and the person on the other end simply said front desk. I told them why I was calling and gave them my name, they then transferred me to some guy who told me that I was being sued by contentinal over a credit card from 2008 that the papers had been filed and I would be receiving a summons to appear in court in a county that I have never resided in. I explained that I had never had a credit card through this company, the one and only was through a different name to which he told me yea that could be what you know the company as. He told me the summons would be served to me at my place of employment, I told him I'm not working so I need to make sure I get it and that its served to my residence. I told him I thought it was hilarious, he said he didn't see what was so hilarious about it and then proceeded to tell me I was filthy and started yelling about how he was going to get all my money for the next ten years that they would put a lean on everything I owned. To which I replied I don't own anything. I then asked to speak to his supervisor, a similar voiced man got on the phone and apologized about the previous person's behavior. When I asked him where the place of employment was that I was going to be served at I was told that he couldn't give me that information? When I asked when the court date was, again he couldn't give me the information. He proceeded to tell me they had hired a company close to me to dig up information anything involving my social security number. I asked the business name to which he told me R&S. He then told me after me asking information that they "had" I was being fishy and trying to pry!! Are you kidding??? I called my attorney and he told me this was the second call he had today of the same exact scenario to call them back and tell them to sue me through the county I reside and give them the number to the local magistrate office. I called the number back, again "front desk" I asked to speak to Phil and they said who? Then asked my name put me on hold when Phil got on the phone I told him I had talked to my attorney and he needed to sue me through the county I resided in and asked him if he wanted the phone number to which he replied no. I asked why he didnt need the number and he said they had it handled and asked me why I changed my mind on making payment arrangements. I told him I had also done some research and googled the number to which he got irrate and told me that opinions are like [***] and not to believe everything I read or heard and my attorney was stupid. He then also told me I was filthy I asked him why I was filthy he didn't know me to which he replied because you don't pay your bills I laughed and he hung up the phone. PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THIS!! ALL THEY ARE DOING IS SCAMMING YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY!!

    I have been getting the calls and finally called them back to see who they were and was also told I have been sent court papers... never gotten a thing he said that there is going to be a judgement against my ss # now that's pretty scary to know people like this have our ss#s they need to stop trying to scary the poor working class that are out here trying to make it in this hard economy. The man spoke to me like I were trask he said people like me were no better that the people that put on the masks and rob banks. The debt he is referring to is from 10 yrs ago I was bearly out of my teen yrs its fallin off of my credit he said it didn't matter its very "legal" for them to wait till now to "sue" trash like me. Get a life leave us poor people alone! This world is hard enough to live in without people like you trying to upset and talk to people like you do. I pray you don't treat your own family, kids, parents or friends like you have treated all of us.

    I got a call from them (8887729119) saying i was being sued and that if i didn't pay them they would go through with it and that the reason that i hadn't received anything  was because they didn't have a physical address only a PO box. Well after confirming my info with them they went ahead and asked me for my visa # and they would give me 2 days to come up with the money so i did ( i know i shouldn't have but i was horrified) so we hung up i agreed to call him the next day so after i got off the phone i looked up the # thanks to this website i didn't go threw with it i quikly called my bank to let then know what was going on..so the next day i got a call from them asking me if i had the money and i said yes but that i had not deposited the money yet because i wanted to confirm a couple of  things he go upset and started getting very nasty with me saying that i was irresponsible and went on and on so i stayed calm and asked him why he was getting so upset taking it so personal and then he calmed down and apologized and so then i thnt aheadand asked him what there address was and he gabber it to me and i went on to ask him what address they had for me and he said i was a po box and he gab Mr the # of the po box and the one he gave me was one that my pearents had when i was 15 so that didn't make sense and after he gave me there address i told him i wad going to compare it with one that i had and he hung up and didnt call back so now I'm waiting to get served ...but I'm sure it's a scam they couldn't give me answers and if you call the #after hours some teenager answers  that give some weird name like" Mr Hunter" is very rude and disrespectful i just didn't add up but I'd rather go to court and pay more but at least I'm paying the right ppl ill keep u posed on if i ever get served.. And by the way looked up the address that they gave me it's to some ups place

    I have been getting calls from these idiots for the last 2 weeks.  They messed up though, my home phone doesn't accept blocked numbers, so the idiot unblocked her number while pretending to be a process server.  And it's a home phone number.  The number is 909-256-8424, so feel free to call her any time of the day or night.  I have been.

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    Don't do this replies to fed up
    The local TV news ran a segment showing how easy it is to spoof the telephone number received on your caller ID, and there are quite a number of reports of innocent third parties who have been harassed day and night by people who are called by criminals using the numbers of these innocent third parties without their knowledge.  It's so simple and there are so many ways of doing it that anyone, you or I included, could do it.

    Resist the urge to take the law into your own hands and take revenge based on the caller ID numbers you receive.  You just might be hurting someone else (to the amusement of the miscreants who called you in the first case) and you might become open to a harassment charge against yourself.

    They closed my account
    | 2 replies
    So, long story short, they called my job stating they were coming to get me if I did not call back. I called back, and they had the wrong address (two wrong addresses actually) and they did not want to update them (clue #1), they threatened to sue me. I asked why they called me to tell me they were going to sue?, they can just sue...if they are calling to work out a payment, then let's talk. They would not send me anything in writing (clue #2), but they did by email. I decided to check my credit report and see what I owed them. My plan was to just call the company I owed, and deal with the directly. When I pulled up my credit report I saw the account the were referring to was "paid as agreed", and I never owed the $1880 they were asking. The most I ever owed was $269. I call them and stated they were getting nothing from me, and to leave me alone. That was September 24th, 2012. Today they called again and I threatened them with my lawyer (whom I contacted) and reporting them to the FTC. Within 5 minutes someone called me and told me my account had been closed.....Does not matter to me, I am reporting them anyway!!!

    I suggest you report them to the FTC at: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm

    Received a recorded message from them yesterday stating that my account had been closed.  I think the fact that I reported them to the FTC, Texas Attorney General, California Attorney General, and had my cousin who is an attorney call them may had given them incentive to do so.  They are not licensed to collect in any state but California, so if you live in TX like I do, or in any other state, they are out of luck.  I however still plan to sue them for harrassment.
