I received this call. They were looking for my ex-husband. This is the 4th company that has called my number for him. They are telling me that I am listed as his sister, not his ex-wife. When it tried to look up the number, one of the other sites said that this isn't a valid number and that it was a spoof call.

I just spoken with the real Walden Asset Management (part of Boston Trust), they are aware that people are using their name and advise that everyone who receives a call report it to the FTC and your State Attorney General Office.   This is a total scam do not give out personal information or any other information.

Got a call at work on 1-14-2016 and again today 1-15-2016 from a Cory Williams saying he is with Walden Asset Management and that there is a case pending against me.  He quoted a "file" number.  Said if I wanted to settle out of court to contact 888-786-7511.  Today he has called and said they were giving me one last chance to settle before sending in my file.  Today he didn't even say who he was affiliated with.  Has called me twice in 5 minutes.  Don't know who he is supposedly representing and I will not call him back.  I called the real Walden Asset Management company and they said to report him to the FTC and State Attorney's Office.  How do we stop these people?

The company you are reporting is a valid investment firm, so my guess is that this criminal outfit is pretending to use their name to legitimize themselves.  A previous poster identified them a GS Holdings LLC. which is a debt collector located in Western New York, known haven for criminals pretending to be debt collectors.  As to the SS# part:

If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):
    http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/How-Do-You-Rep ... aud-Activity%3F

Now since they have talked to you, that is first contact so they are required to do the following:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They called my daughter, my 14 year old son, and my husband leaving messages stating that there is a grievance and that if I didn't call them that they will submit the paper work to their legal department. Now my 14 years is upset I'm going to jail. I called them back and it's from a payday that was paid two years ago. They want my paper work and other information about me but won't provide written verification of the debt. Heck the Payday loan people said it was paid and have never sent any type of documentation stating I owe them.

    Just a normal Joe
I received a phone call at my place of employment today.  And this is not the first time, but it was the first time that it was actual voice and not a recording and of course different spoof number.... here are the following numbers that I have found are all tied together: 702-359-9999, 877-268-4356, 866-668-3516 and each time they call from these numbers you are to call back another number.  They provide a file number and want you to settle some sort of debt even though the numbers have been associated with other scams to get money in the past too if you do a little research.  They need to deliver documents to my home and if I am not at home they will come to my place employment.  So now I am pissed they are threatening me but have never, not once tried to contact me by mail or certified letter so right away I call Bull [***]!  I did more research on the company by the name and address provided....  Walden Asset Management LLC, 3843 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 and the website was hard to find because they didn't provide the LLC part and the actual WAM manages portfolios and such...Also the website is a "bootstrap" template - meaning it is just information put on there for show...I checked further with the state of New York and guess what?  There are no LLCs registered in the New York by that name.  And if you go onto the Better Business Bureau website, there are numerous efforts made by BBB to contact them with no response, even though on the about page at the bottom they claim to be BBB accredited they are not and this has been requested to be removed (BBB: http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york/business- ... ga-ny-235983994 ).  And do you know what sucks about this all???  There is not a damn thing we can actually do about this harassment other than send a report - :(

Well you were scammed and you won't get the money back unless you instigate an FDCPA lawsuit.  People that know their rights and the law don't get scammed by debt collectors.  Everything you need to know is in this thread.  Try using it to your advantage because it is there to help you.  Never, ever pay a debt collector without making them follow the letter of the law and validate the debt.  Never ever pay a debt collector who calls you up and immediately threatens a lawsuit for thousands of dollars.  That is called extortion.
