I received a call from this number today saying they were attempting to serve me with a court subpoena.  Was your call similar?

Debt collection scam.  A subpoena would be issued if there was in fact a case already filed concerning you.  If that were the case, then there would be a complaint on file in your local main civil court.  If that were the case you'd be well aware of it from the letters from the attorney for the other party.  You'd have been served with process by a process server license to serve process in your locality.  You would NOT have first heard about a civil case from some scammery-scummery debt collector who COLD calls you and starts asking for money.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Everyone in my family was called by 888-796-9532 today and claimed they were trying to serve a summons.  When one family member returned call, they claimed it was for a bad check from 5/3 bank from 7 years ago.  They would take a lesser amount if paid today by a major credit card.  Has to be a total scam.  Another person called and confronted them.  They got very hostile when questioned.  The bank will be notified that this call number is being used to represent them.

First I got a call from someone saying they were dispatch and told me I needed to call this number "immediately and today" I call back with the case # they told me and told they are taking me to court for a debt to 5/3 years ago. --this debt they are referring to was sold to a company called UCR which is no longer a valid company because the owner was shady and looking at a lot of prison time! --This "Chambers law center" claims they now own the debt. When I requested information sent to me, she tells me they attempted to send me documents and had US marshals to my home to serve whatever papers. Then stated they would not send anything else but she would send via email. I told her no. She told me she would see me in court. She stated they are out of LA California and they "represent the courts in whatever county I'm in" I laughed at her, told her they were a scam and I would be reporting them.

US Marshals have a lot better things to do than to serve papers over a simple lawsuit in your county.  Besides, these people wouldn't get anywhere near a US Marshal for fear that they would be arrested on their outstanding warrants.

This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They called my ex husband claiming i owe 5th 3rd bank so i called fifth third and they gave me a total different number to call.. I dont believe this chambers law firm is legit

Left a voicemail on my moms phone today from Chambers Law Firm out of Los Angeles, California.

I returned the call. Was told I owe 5/3 bank $1300 from a "charged off" account from 4/2012. Said that they mailed me a letter giving me 30 days to respond to my PO box on 12/16 which I never got. Claims a civil case will be filed against me on 2/5/2016.

I asked to validate the debt. Was told they have the media and I would have access to it at court. Was told that unless I have proof from 5/3 that it had been already paid through mediation they would consider the call a refusal to pay and civil suit would be filed. Asked for a valid address to serve me.

I believed it was a scam from the start. Was placed on hold repeatedly for over 10 minutes. Called back to 888-796-2730 extension 170. Left a voicemail. No response.

Same thing happened to me. Got a call on Feb 2 with a VM from Sharon Davis at the <mumbled> County Office saying that county officials made several attempts to serve papers at my house to myself and another person that I assume they believed to be my husband (they very clearly got my husband's name wrong). She gave a case number and said to call back immediately, etc and that I have "BEEN NOTIFIED". After doing a quick search, I found this chain of reports - so when she called back yesterday I was prepared. I called her out as being a debt collection scam and she started to yell at me that I didn't know the seriousness of the situation at my home address (l mean...come on...). I laughed at her and told her it would help if she actually got the names right...and which point she hung up on me. This is ridiculous and I have the voicemail saved JUST in case.

I was threatened with a felony case if I didn't pay 951.00 immediately before the end of today

I was also threatened with a felony summons saying that if I didn't pay this payment today is be served the summons for court cost and fees. The original payment was for 1900.00 + dollars Anthony James who claims to be an associate for this company stated he could reduce the payment to a lower amt which was 951.00 everybody please beware of these scammers I'm sure we're all sick of this crap.
