    Calls and says they have mailed a letter with a claim, then called myself and my sister. Unable to provide a valid business address or website. Claimed to be a law firm out of LA. Ask for their website and business license number. Sounds very real - but beware.

    Debt collectors in California must be licensed.  They also have to be registered with the State Department.  Law firms must have an attorney and that attorney has to be registered with the State as well.
