He mentioned a family member name that i haven't had contact with in 30yrs (im only 40 lol) I am just pissed because my number is also on the national do not call list, so whats the point of that mess then if ppl still going to call ... - Same replies to sI got the same call today, sounds like a guy with a New Jersey accent. Just really annoying.
- tjgThey called using my husbands name (he's been dead a year). The number always looks local to the number they're calling because they're using what we used to call 'trunk' numbers. It's something a lot of companies do because they know you will ignore an 800 number. Left a message saying 'you have been listed as a reference.' Apparently, their standard line. My policy is to not answer numbers I don't know that are local, because of the scams.

- AnnReceived a phone call from this same scammer - a number that I already have blocked, but vm's still record. Here's the transcript of that call: 'Hello this is Mark Daniels with Mac. The reason for my call today is we have you listed as a reference for (name). If you know who this is, please press 1 now or hold for message.' 'You were listed as a person of interest in an important matter that does require your immediate attention. If you can please contact us directly at 888-818-3580....' The message stated is for the person they're trying to 'rope in'. I agree this caller is relentless. They're basically phishing & hoping to get someone who's scared enough to believe the scam, call them back and give out whatever information the scammers want. These sob's are dangerous, creating fear and stress on unsuspecting recipients of their calls. Sadly, there's no way to really catch them or even pinpoint who they are because they have the ability to call from different numbers so easily. I myself don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize - ever. If whoever is calling wants to speak to me bad enough, they'll leave me a legitimate vm. If they don't, and continue calling and hanging up when my outgoing message starts - I know for sure it's a scammer, and I block the number if one is listed. I hope this is helpful.

The Florida Dept. of State has no registration on file for either a corporation or a fictitious name. This means that they are operating illegally.
The Florida Dept. of Financial Regulation has nothing on record for the business name or the name listed on the BBB as the manager. This means that they are again operating illegally.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
