This number was given as a contact number for a Chase phishing scam where they asked for a social security #.

DO NOT give them ANY personal info!! I also called Chase, and they said they do not send letters of any kind of this nature.
I did call this number, and sure enough, they wanted my SS#, and my account number. BIG time scam!! Beware!!

I just was going through some old mail and saw this "official" looking letter from Chase, it has bar codes on the letter, Chase's company logo, Chase's website.. and a two Fake phone numbers.

The letter read: "We're writing to confirm that you have provided consent for us to contact mobile phone number ***-***-**** using automatic dialing technology.  This change was made in response to the recent update to your contact preferences, or when you enrolled in alerts for one of your accounts."

Unfortunately i gave out my name, address and card number before I felt uncomfortable, and before answering any more questions..  called the number on the back of my card (actually the person at this number said if i did not want to give my information to him, i could also call the number on the back of my card.. which i did)

CHASE confirmed this is NOT their number. Thank you everyone for writing in and warning people!!!  I wish I did not give out as much info as i did, but i changed my card number IMMEDIATELY.

The number 888-821-4277 apparently is a valid number for Chase Bank.

I received a letter from Chase Bank about my Visa card that listed in two places 888-821-4277 as the number to call for help.  The letter said that they would no longer send text messages to my mobile phone number, and then it listed my work number.

I was concerned that they had been trying to send text messages to my work number, which is not a mobile.  I contacted them by logging into my credit card account on their website and sending them an internal email there.  The first response was that they did not have a record of sending me the letter, but they asked that I send them a copy of the letter so that they could investigate.

After I received their letter, I also searched on line for the contact number and found these postings.  Between the fact that they said they did not send the letter, and the postings on this website, I started to think the letter might be a scam to get people to call the number and give someone personal information.

I called a number for credit cards listed on the Chase website.  I talked to two people there.  They pointed out that I had changed my work number in my account the same day that the letter was sent.  So, it seemed possible that that update had triggered the letter.  However, the people I talked to did not verify for sure that Chase had sent the letter, or that the number above was a valid Chase number.

I also called the number above and was connected to someone almost immediately.  When I called the number on my credit card, it was very difficult to figure out how to talk to anyone at all.  So the fact that someone answered immediately seemed suspicious.

After Chase reviewed the letter, I received a response internally in my account from Chase that they had sent the letter.  It is triggered by the change of a phone number in your account.  I agree that the letter is misleading and suspicious looking.  It seems odd that they do not send an email in response to the phone number change.

If you search for this number in Google, you will also find in the first few links returned a website discussing problems with Chase Bank.  In one of the postings the above number is listed as a number someone contacted.  So, this number might be an old toll free number for Chase Bank.

Also, if the letter was a scam, whoever sent it would have needed to know my name, address, work number, and probably that I had a Chase account, unless it was just a lucky guess.  So, if it was a scam I suspected someone within Chase Bank would have to be involved.

I think that people are still correct to be suspicious of a letter like the one Chase apparently sends out.  It could have been a very clever scam.  It is always better to either go to the website for the company to contact them, or call a number that you know for certain is theirs, such as the number on the credit card in this case.

I also received a letter a day after making a change that involved a phone change. I received a letter yesterday with the same information about text alerts.  The strange thing about this is that the letter was written a day after I set up my new phone to make a Chase direct deposit.  I know I did not change any alerts because I never received any email notification.  You always get a notification if you change something.  I went into my account today and realized the phone numbers do not match any of Chases.  There seems to be some connect between the setup or any change you make involving a cell phone number.

The letter is fake. I received one too, called Chase to confirm. Not only that, they wanted to confirm that they could not send messages to what they claimed was my phone number. But that number has no connection to me. Furthermore, I received this after my credit card was lost.

I got a letter from Chase suspending my text alerts, they stated that if I wanted to change that I was to call the 888 number, so I did and a guy with a foreign accent answered on the FIRST ring ! that raised suspicion with me so I hung up.  Now I called the number on the back of my card and after finally getting a PERSON they told me it was a scam and they turned me over to their Abuse/Legal Department and after a series of security questions that a girl that I could barely understand said she would reinstate my text alerts and that the letter was legit ! So in a little while I'll go to the store and use my card to see if it works as far as the alerts notifying me.  i NEVER LOST MY EMAIL ALERTS, JUST TEXT ALERTS.
