Got a call February 16, 2016 alleging that I need to appear in court on Feb. 19, although my name isn't "Matthew Lee," who the automated speaker says needs to appear.

It's probably -- no, definitely -- a scam because a) it's automated and b) the court would never call you.

Beware and don't call them back!

It is not a scam, John. It's a legitimate notice to appear in court. The system was probably updated with your number in error but the automated call is the method used by court districts to remind those who have to appear in court of their court date, court location and the consequence of arrest if they fail to appear in court.

Notices to appear in court arrive via US mail, not the phone.

    Shill Alert
You know a message is not a legal notification.  But then you only make money on Lies.  You are not in this thread to contribute, only to do some preemptive SHILLING and try to contribute to your own pockbook, money that is not yours.
If you are legit, post all about your wonderful company.  If I am wrong, I will post to that effect.  Here's what I need to see:

    - Company Name
    - Incoming line phone number - not your call back line for your crookery.
    - Physical address - Being a bully and a chicken, you will not post this because of blah-blah-blah - A legit company has nothing to hide, and the light of day is not what you want is it?  Smells like Buffalo, but we will see....

Looking forward to your lies and excuses!

Well "Anthony", I've never heard of any "court districts" notifying people of court dates by 'phone. Or making threats of arrest for FTAs via automated calls. The real "clincher" here "Anthony" will be when people start to make reports of getting follow-up calls from bogus/fraudulent debt collectors shortly after getting these mysterious calls. Now what do you suppose the chances of that are going to be "Anthony"?
My bet is that some "enterprising genius" came up with a new angle to make his Scam a bit more believable. It's not going to work. A simple call to a Clerk of Courts offices is going to blow that idea right out of the water. Claims for legitimate debts are made by MAIL with a complete notice of validation. Notices to appear in court NEVER come by 'phone! If someone has a court date...they damn well know about it already!

I just had a call from this number. I actually have court today for a dui case in queens county ny so it seems legit. They also sent me a text yesterday reminding me of court appearance it's weird but legit.

    Information please replies to Dimitri
Except for one small problem. A court case is a matter of public record. If you check with a court officer, or on line, this information is there. So on an incoming call you really have no idea who you are talking to.

Well "Dimitri", I think the truth of this matter will come out soon. Others will be receiving calls from this number soon I'm sure. I somehow think those people are going to be reporting getting follow-up calls from questionable "sources". I really doubt those "sources" are going to prove to be from any court systems. I'm also quite sure that those people are going to report being pressured to return calls to other numbers.
I'm rarely wrong "Dimitri". Time will tell in this case. As it is, I'm already pretty sure who's behind this scheme.

It is a reminder message of a court date in the NYC Metro area. If you dial the number back it will give you the defendant name. My ex-roommate left my number with the court system for these reminders.

The site doesn't say anything about telephone reminders - only email reminders - which you have to set up beforehand.

I get continuous messages for a court appearance for a Willie Holmes from this number.  It is not legitimate.   The first time, I thought it was real and called the court system thinking that my number had been mixed up with said Willie Holmes.

    Explain
Please explain to me how this is a scam? The message does not request any type of info. It's simply a call to remind me of my upcoming court date. NY has been doing this for some time. If you've been in court recently, you would know this.

Why did you come to a website dedicated to exposing telephone scams?  To post a positive review?

BINGO, DM.. If it's a legit call/reminder why come here and NOT post facts regarding a link to where it shows this is indeed a legit practice by the court system? So far the only piece of info includes a legit link to sign up for reminders via email.

Somekind of scam.   Actually called me via voip 5 times within 2 minutes from 3 separate ips on SUNDAY before 8AM.  Not legitamite.  50.97.48.66 174.37.243.98 50.23.219.182 ip

Opps.  actually ignore those ips as i was confused about their origins.  However the calls before 8am and the continual calls at 11am still are not legit on Sundays.  I wouldn't call back and recognize those prompts as quite frankly if you are getting a call from "criminal court"; you really should already know whats going on.

This is a legit automated call from the NYC court system reminding you of a court appearance. They make sure to get in contact with you or anyone who can deliver a message to the person who has a court appearance. A warrant will be issued if the person doesn't show up in court. It gives you the date, time and address. This is not a scam I have been called every time on a Sunday before the court date for my son.  "Not a Scam" it's a reminder people!
