Called from an unknown number and claimed to be a process server and said their letter to "Mr. ------" (hard to understand, but pretty sure not me or anyone I know) had been returned as undeliverable, and asked me to call an attorney at this 888 number. Unknown if this was a scam or legitimate mistake...?

You can be 100% sure that this is not how process servers conduct business.

I received a call from and unknown number and to an attorney at 888-831-2497 due to a summons and that I owe a lump sum of money but not giving me any information I believe this is a scam

Got a unknown caller, message said someone missed court today.So court ask them to call.Talks very fast. Ask to call 888-831-2497 Adam. Gave a case number. I dont think courts ask stranger to call and courts give the county in which they are with.

I was told I missed papers that had been delivered. Didn't want me to miss, my court date. This isn't how processors, handle business and conduct business.

Debt Extortion Scammers

Carrier Services and Process Servers do not know what is contained in the documents they are paid to serve/deliver. They don't cold call a recipient to inform them of a "failed attempt to deliver", as that would alert the recipient someone is attempting to Serve them. Anyone explaining what they are delivering, saying "matter attached to your SSN", "you have officially been notified", "deliver legal docs and to have ID ready"  or offering an alternative "solution" to avoid delivery is a scammer. Real process servers don't need to set a time to deliver any documents nor do they threaten legal action if you don't call them.

The vague scare tactic message is designed to panic a victim into calling back.

Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :

• threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
• Says a Process Server  or Courier is coming with papers to sign
• Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
• Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
• Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
• Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail

A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.

If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment.

Called from Miami-Dade County Processing. Said that court papers were returned as “undeliverable”. Left number 888-831-2397, and a “case” number. Called, guy answers the phone, simply says do you have a case number? I asked who he was, he rudely and loudly asked, “do you have a case number”. Of course, I recognized it for the scam it was. Told him what he could do to himself and hung up.

It's a total scam.   They did the same to me.  Said they were collecting on a debt from 2007.  Got really nasty and actually called my mom & ex husband claiming I was avoiding being served.  I called the clerk or the court & the sheriff's office and as I suspected no one was trying to serve me papers.  Total con artists

I received a call yesterday first I hung up cause I couldn’t understand him talking, then they called back four times and then left a voice message saying  that I have a Civil Warrant that need to be issued to me he even said he was from our Campbell county processor office  that They Try to deliver to me but did  not have the right address so. I called 888-831-2497 they told me they was a lawyers office and they were talking on behalf of the Complaint I asked him what complaint they said it was from a past due loan back in 2005 I said 17 years ago they said yes they mailed me a little 45 days ago told him I did not receive a letter  I can settle now for $1900 claiming I  owed $4358 if I did not pay the $1900 they were gonna file court summons and sue me for $12,000  for fines and lawyer fees  it sounded so real they knew all my information and wanted me to pay I told them I don’t have that, they said I can pay half 900  I said is this a scam and they assured me it was not a scam I said well I don’t have the money right now I’ll call you back tomorrow is this a scam? They were so convincing !

I got the same call from the same number yesterday. They actually tried to call me 3 times in a row. I don't answer unlisted numbers. Voicemail consistent with everyone else's. I knew it was a scam. They even called my wife's cell today and left a msg.

Miami-Dade County - Person tried to call me 3 times in a row from a private number and then left message. He said he was a process server for Miami-Dade County and that they tried to deliver legal documents to me to appear in court but they came back as undeliverable. Said I needed to call the attorney to avoid further legal implications.
