number showed up on my bank account for a magazine subscription authorization, did not order any magazines, the people who called from a different number told me I had won a prize in a sweepstakes that my bank had entered me in(the bank did not), the number that called my cell phone does not show up on my phone, this number is either a fax or computer, for when I tried to call it just got a bunch of weird noises for about a minute, then a dial tone

My wife picked up the phone and got this "offer" to get a year subscription on 5 magazines for like $10 a month. They ask you a quick survey and then tell you "you're in for a vacation sweepstakes" then they asked for a credit card. At first I said no to my wife but then agreed. 4 weeks passed and no magazines. When I contacted my bank they couldn't find any call back number. In the bank statement I found what looked like a number, when my wife called only a fax machine of some sort responded. This definitely is not a legit merchant avoid this kind of scams even if it sound right is better to be safe than sorry. If you want to be safer ask them to send you a bill if they refuse then you’ll know what you’re dealing with. Now this set me back $50 for nothing, nothing AT ALL.

they are using the survey and prize winnings to get around the DONOTCALL laws.  
Surveys are exempt from do not call laws.  Prize winnings imply a previuous buisiness relationship.

they are required to tell at the beginning of the call they are telemarketers, before they mention the survey or prize winnings.

the Federal Trade Commission and YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR FRAUD!
